check engine light on!

I read the code that pops up. Its 2185. Engine coolant temperature sensor 2. I have no clue what to do, I mean obviously it needs to be replaced but i dont know where it is. If anyone knows where it's located at, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated. It is an 06 330i A/T

I had the same thing. Coolant sensor stuck high (high temp)

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion / decision to replace it. First visually check your coolant level making sure its between min an max. Then just have it reset at a local autozone or something if you can. See if it comes back. If it does, the sensor could just be bad (not too uncommon).

How do you read the codes? No numbers come up when my check engine light comes on.

If I go above 3000 RPM, it goes straight into limp mode. The earliest BMW appointment I could get isn't until next year.

The only place I know there is a coolant temp sensor is on the lower radiator hose and it is P/N 13621433077. The hose is on the right side of the engine compartment (the passenger side) on the hose that comes out of the bottom of the radiator into the T-stat.

it does not look very hard to replace the sensor....just unclip the lead (***after the engine has cooled, of course), unscrew the sensor and install a new one. They say use a new copper gasket too...sometimes just disconnecting the clip, checking that the contacts are clean and reinstalling the clip can get a sensor working again, but its a long shot.

guys, will any coolant leak out when the sensor is unscrewed?

just wondering.

Yes. It is near the bottom of the cooling system. You'll need to drain the system first, or you'll make a mess.
