Just about to take delivery of my 07 E92 but it only has S640A. *sigh* wish it had BT from factory. Reading up on the MoBridge stuff and it;s lack of suppliers/support on the forums, I am left to the OEM solution for BT phone calls. I would like BT audio streaming too, but that would be just a bonus.
My goal is simple: -be able to use the steering wheel controls to answer and end phone calls I don't care about: -BMW Assist -voice commands Is there any Parrot CK solution like with some other BMW models, without having to spend nearly $1K in parts and coding? edit: I have the following BMW Professional HU (S663). Does this headunit have the built in BT so all I need is the mic and coding? Last edited by dbworld4k; 11-21-2013 at 12:04 PM.. |

Hi,
I have been searching this forum and others for days and this thread is the closest I've come to finding out the answers. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have a 2011 328i (build date 4/11/2011) and would like to add Bluetooth. The car has a BT sticker on the radio, I removed the FZD and there is not a mic or any wiring tucked up there for it. I have to use a Y connector for my Ipod, plugging directly into the USB port in the armrest does not work. The only hardware in the trunk is the amplifier. My questions are, is it as easy as adding a mic (84316938762) buying/making a cable that goes from the mic in the FZD and run it to ???? and then have the car coded? Any and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

Yes, maybe. I was able to do it to my 2010 328 (build date Oct 2009), but there are a lot of variables and I did it for the phone functionality only, not music. I spent a lot of time reading this thread, which is REALLY helpful. Your model year probably has the combox which mine did not, so that makes it different from mine which was pretty straightforward. My advice is study this thread and do your research. It's not that hard if you do your homework first.

Pretty sure you have to have iDrive for a combox, so that's probably not the case.
Anyway, the real point is, I don't know where a Mic plugs into the headunit with bluetooth . Gotta keep searching.

Thanks, I have been searching and searching. I just keep going round and round from posts to posts to links to posts I have already read. It is very well documented throughout for cars built pre 2011, I cant find enough info for cars post 2011.
I have read that if you can plug your ipod directly into the USB in the armrest, (which I can't) without the use of a Y cable (which I use) your car has a combox. That leads me to believe my car has a some version of a mulf, correct? I have searched the trunk and all that is in there is an amp. I have searched in back of and under of the glovebox, along with under the carpet on the passenger side and can't find anything that resembles a mulf. Can anyone tell me where the mulf would be located (if it even has one)? Again it's a build date 04/11 328i, BT sticker on radio, working satellite radio, USB/ Aux in armrest that needs y cable for ipod to function. No idrive or assist. I just want factory BT to work. Any and all help would be much appreciated. |

Thank you Alex,
So what your telling me is that the mic gets wired into the head unit? That explains why I cant find the mulf that doesn't exist. I'll start searching the head unit threads for wiring and try to stumble across pins for the mic. Is there anyone who has done this or read about it that could point me in the right direction? |

There are a few other people who've done a 'new headunit' retrofit, but theyre a bit sparse. Dig through search and you can probably find someone to PM who mentions having done it.

I found this post
DIY: Retrofitting a Professional HU with USB and Bluetooth and I think there is enough info there for me to get started. I just need to get the # off my head unit so I make sure to order the correct adapters to install the mic. At least I'm off that merry-go-round of mulfs and combox's. Thanks again Alex |

Ken,
Here is what I ordered to install the mic. 84-31-6-938-762 BMW Part HANDS FREE TELEPHONE MIC 61-13-0-005-197 BMW Part BUSHING CONTACT (x4) 61-13-8-377-072] BMW Part UNIVERSAL SOCKET HOUSING I just need to pick up about 10 feet of shielded cable. Two pins that go into 1 and 6 on the head unit, soldered to the shielded cable, then soldered to the other two pins that go into the connector that plugs into the mic. I found a local guy to code the head unit. I'll post once I have the mic wired in. |

Finally received all the parts. I soldered two pins to the shielded wire, plugged the pins into the connector and the connector into the mic. Now I have to run the wire from the FZD to the head unit. I post more pics later. |

Pin #1 from mic goes to #22 on the radio connector. Pin #2 from the mic goes to #17. I just need to put it all back together and have the head unit coded. I'll post an update later. |

Unfortunately is was unable to get the Bluetooth working. I had a local guy (rich) code the radio for BT but for some reason it didn't work. He tried a lot of different codes and combinations, to no avail. My last shot was to see if it would magically be working the next morning, others have posted that happening for them.
If anyone has gone through this and figured out why the BT wouldn't work, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks |
