29e1 code

well i havent driven my bmw in a couple weeks since i plan on selling it and wanted to keep the miles down

while cruising on the highway i got a cel
29e1

everything ive read just say its fuel in bank 2 but no one really says wether its the oxygen sensor or what it is that needs to be fixed or replaced

car is bone stock and only other problem is persistent cyl 5 misfire after 6300 rpm, new plugs coils, fuel injectors, lpfp sensor

Figure out your misfire, and I have a feeling that code will be linked to it. I'd have to see the car in the shop to really give you any guidance from this point, its a total shot in the dark. It could literally be anything from a 30 cent manifold gasket to a major engine issue.

Can't figure out the high rpm misfire, car still runs great and 29e1 cel only pops up while crushing on the highway for extended periods of time

Misfire bill at dealership was at two grand before I gave up

I'm getting 29E0 and 29E1 even after replacing my oxygen sensors (two lambda sensor codes went away though). I havent had any misfires and other than maxing out fuel trims on the tune it runs fine. I'm wondering if it's injectors. Car should go into the shop next week; I'll update then.

So I'm getting the same code 29E1. Thing is I took it to the shop and they totally ignored the code. They fixed the thermostat but didn't mention the code. I believe air is getting in somewhere but I haven't been able to figure out where. Curious to see what you find out. Please report back with your fix and I will do the same once I know. By the way my car has 73k on it.

Are you running a tune? If so, are you maxing fuel trims? I am and I'm trying to see if that is related to the fuel mixture codes or a separate issue. I took my car to the dealer and they smoke-tested both intake as well as exhaust and found no leaks. They also reset fuel mixture adaptations but the codes/SES light came back on within a few days. They want me to put the stock downpipes on before they'll do anything else...so I'm looking for an indy shop that can fix it...stay tuned.

No, the car is stock with the exception of an IC. It is not related to a tune as this is only happening at low rpm (around 2,300 rpm) and around 60 mph. Right now the light is not on but I sure it will return soon. How many miles do you have on your car Sickem?

FWIW my car threw a P29e1 a few weeks ago after running an ethanol mixture, the mix was only about e30 total so it wasn't overly aggressive..I scan the car for codes once every week or two, and this code popped up. No CEL/SES light was thrown at any time, and the car drove completely fine, in fact I believe I had data logged the night before to see how the car liked the ethanol. Code was cleared and has never come back, so i'm not particularly concerned about it.

Like I said my car is stock now. The code is usually happening around 2300 rpm at about 60 mph. I see that the code has occurred twice now since I picked it up from the dealer. I think on the third time the light will come on, at least I hope. So when the light is on again I will take it back to the dealer.

well it is at the indy now, they said that they cant diagnose that code without diagnosing the misfire

so i asked them to do a smoke test and if all is ok i want them to diagnose the dme, they said its impossible to diagnose the dme and that it will throw a code if bad

does anyone know how i can test the dme (for coil drivers/injector drivers)

It's a fuel mixture code that usually occurs from running a blend of e85.

I had this code while running straight 91 octane and but had run e85 in the past. Additionally, my hpfp was on its way out and I had ridiculously long start cranks.

Issue was resolved by having the hpfp replaced.

Not running E85 and haven't. Car is stock and not having a problem with cranking. Car seem to run fine except I'm getting the lean code around 2300 rpm and 60 mph. Dealer has not been able to fine the problem yet.

Since these cars don't run a mass air flow sensor, instead use map sensors to simulate a virtual mass air flow, these cars do not suffer from lean faults due to air leaks as often, unless its a specific one cylinder air leak in the runner.

If plugs are good I would lean towards the injector, especially being as you also have mixture faults. One problem causing both issues is much more likely than two completely unrelated issues at the exact same time. A failed DME usually just quits, I have not fixed any misfire issues on any bmw with replacement of a DME. Start with the basics.

Goes back to an old saying of if you hear hoof steps think horses not zebras.

Not sure why they haven't looked at the fuel (injectors). They smoke tested and replaced a seal. Found nothing with smoke testing. The seal was not the problem. We will see what happens next week. will keep you posted
