I've heard many users saying that fuel injectors need to be replaced around 100k miles, however every post I've seen has been in regards to 07-08 N54's. Is this the same case for the 09-10's?

Of course you don't hear about them! You'll hear about the issues only so quite simply it looks like a horror story of course.

Every car has problems. I thought the 335 owners were the unluckiest poor bitches on the face of the earth too- until I drove one.
It's like reading consumer reviews of medicines on the internet, you will get the worst horror stories imaginable. There are tens of thousands of 335 out there and im sure the majority are happy owners

Oil leak from the turbo return lines on both turbos = $2,200
6 new fuel injectors (misfire cylinder 3)= $1,800
Driver muffer (cold start rattle) = $700
Oil filter housing gasket (oil leak) = $800

All of this covered under CPO warranty = $50

Although the oil leak from the turbo return line was NOT covered under CPO warranty, my SA fought for me with BMW NA and claimed it as a fire hazard. They eventually "good will" the work and all was well.

I still have a slight oil leak where the engine mates up to the transmission (6spd). The culprit is either the oil pan gasket or the rear main seal. I'm not worried as both are covered under CPO warrant as stated by my SA.

I was considering buying a 2008 335i with 50k miles on it this week for around $20k with no warranty, but after finding this thread I am second guessing.

Would this be a bad purchase? The owner says they have had hpfp replaced and other than that only the basics such as fluids, brake pads etc.

Not necessarily, but it would be easier (monetarily) if you can do some maintenance yourself. In addition to having some spare money for unexpected repairs and not waiting for parts to fail. EG water pump. I am replacing mine next Spring and I will probably be near 52K mi and I have already replaced the suspension. You cant run them into the ground and expect them to perform, reliability wise, like a Toyota.

High Pressure Fuel Pump:
Symptoms: Half engine SES, lost power
Part: $0.00
Labor hr: ???
Total Cost: $0.00

The thing is warrantied for something in excess of 100K miles and 10 years. It wouldn't surprise me if, after had one replaced already, it didn't break one mile and 1 hour after the warranty period expires. The turbo waste gate things have a long warranty coverage period as well, though not quite as long.

These two reasons alone, although other valid reasons exist, are why I never recommend anyone buy a used 335i unless they have a very specific reason for doing so.

It might not be a bad purchase, but if it turns out to be bad, it'll be very bad and very expensive. If you can assume the risk and afford the costs should the risks become reality, sure go for it.

I don't care what the owner says. If you have no specific need for a 335i, you should not buy a used one and certainly not a used one with no warranty.

All the best.

I bought a used 2010 335 with 60k (lotta miles) but the car was well taken care of, and not one scratch on the car. I have 70k on it now and have had no problems so far (knock on wood). FBO now, and This is simply the nicest car I ever owned. No warrenty. No problems.

Is there more threads like this one that someone has bookmarked?

Looking for repair costs on common issues.
Both dealer priced and DIY where applicable...

And would love to get a feel for what mileage specific issues typically pop up at, any good threads like that?

everything is half price @ an Indy...

Coils and plugs.... would ALWAYS change by myself... it's a good learning experience at the least.

Same with the Door acutator and the software update... $40 cable and then you're set

Not always the case, two indies near me wanted $160 for a brake flush. since the dealer wanted $120, went with the dealer and drove their loaner. One really has to shop around, because an auto shop may take advantage under certain circumstances....

This is that 'BMW tax" they talk about. You will no doubt be ripped off anywhere you go if you allow it. Reasearch your stuff, know it, and be up front with your knowledge... so then they know you know and won't rip you off.

Just had 3 injectors replaced by my local garage, only cost me $940, and he used BMW parts not knockoffs...so I don't know where you are getting the +$2000
