I think to get the full potential of the tune, esp at some tracks around the country with poor track prep DR are needed to get the power down. STOCK RFT will get eaten by todays tune's, even my SSTT ate them up. If that power can be put down, it will be fast!

You have to be able to put the power down. Some tracks like Orlando Speedworld where I race at, do NOT hook very well, and some other up north & Bradenton hook great. The good hooking tracks you don't even need a DR sometimes, but others you need them just to be able to get a half way decent time.

+1, I was running plenty of power this past Saturday, but since I couldnt hook I had to let out of the throttle multiple times per run. I ran a 12.6 at 116mph+ w/ 3 full throttle let offs.....there was a lot more there.

Sometimes with HP, less power is more.

The RFTs get pretty grippy once you get them hot. But with how much they cost, I am not willing to sit there are do warm-up burnout with them.

I did 12.38 at 113+ on v2 stock runflats and 100 octane. Ambient temp about 70 F . I think that is the best on stock runflats, tune only.

The reality of it is conditions vary so much, you will have different results with the same tire. The last time at the track when I ran a disappointing 12.47, I was getting 60' times around 2.0 seconds. That was on DRs. On the street I can easily get a 2.0x on the stock runflats, etc. 1.9 on the Nittos. I would imagine, at the right track (prep), and if you are willing to heat up your RFTs properly, lower the pressure, etc, its obvious you can get better much better times than some people get on DRs elsewhere.

Sniz,
You should get your times up at dragtimes.com. At 116+mph, you'd have the fastest customer result ever recorded. Serious stuff

Not so fast! I think I might have him edged out.

We raced same day/track but he was having difficulty putting all that power down. We have not gone heads up to see how much faster he is, but had he hooked up I'm sure he would have destroyed my times and traps. He's got to have 50 whp on me.

you might have edged me out on the trap speed for sure, your car was smoking that day . But your right, you seemed to be able to hook on the Generals even better than I could on heated drag radials. Both of us are running manual trannies. Oh well, next time!

come to think of it Clem, you should enter your best trap speed into dragtimes as well.....do you still have the slip? I threw mine away....wasnt in a good mood after that run....

My best ET is already up on dragtimes. Made the top ten, for now. My trap on that run was 115.76. I just posted up the run that I went 116.29, but the ET was 12.47 due to lame 60' (2.04). I also had another run of 12.35 @ 115.82 that I won't submit. That could potentially qualify me as a dragtimes post whore.

Dude, IIRC you went 13.0 @115.40 that last run. I remember looking at your slip since I was in line to run a didn't see you go. Kinda stuck in my head for some reason.

With more time on those drag radials your car had a shot a breaking into the 11's with an obscene trap speed. There is always a next time.

I'm interested in non-race gas and stock RFT times. IMO, if you're going to run race gas, why not put on non-DOT tires like slicks (assuming you don't care about breaking an axle)? You're no longer "Street" at that point. Both are for racing use as I doubt many drive around with $9/gal gas in their tanks.

"Glory passes" are fun and bestow bragging rights but that's why they are called glory passes- they are unlikely to be repeated very often. If that's what this thread is after, then by all means run whatever gas you want.

I understand and agree with what Shiv says too re what gas is actually run. Any form of human competition has plenty of cheaters, car racing is no different. For bragging rights, since no one is likely to play all that fair, you might as well run race gas (and pull out as much weight as you can since no one seems to care about that either).

I raced enough in the past to know the value of traction which is why I have a 335XI (that and it's cold enough to snow 4+ months of the year in CT).
