Any Teachers on Here?

I've got an educational placement coming up at a local comp. in the Maths dept. (about 700 pupils there, small town fairly rural area) it is part of my course, now I haven't set foot in a school for 4 years though do have 3 clarinet pupils - what can I expect from this?

Depends what the school is like.

Some colleagues I know work in some of the more "unsavoury" schools in Scotland. I admire them, as they have to rely purely on their wits as even a clout round the ear is "assault" these days.

If you avoid getting stabbed, chibbed or becoming pregnant, the sharp, fly buggers will still eat you alive before mid-break.

You'll soon learn to swim. Top tip: be absolutely ruthless at first.

Hi Porscha

The school and college should have an agreed system of induction and supervision regarding all placements, dependent upon the nature of the placement and the experience of the student. All schools will have a student mentor or mentors and you will not be 'thrown in at the deep end' and left to sink or swim. Advice will be given by experienced teachers or named persons who are used to working with students and if you follow this advice closely you should be OK.

You are likely to be expected to follow a programme of observation and perhaps small group interaction. You certainly won't be expected to teach full classes without the relevant experience and qualifications!

Talk to your link tutor to get a full and clear picture of what is expected, what you need to do to prepare, the school's dress code etc. Many colleges provide this information in the form of a booklet or file and good colleges liaise closely with their link schools.

Is that as good as 'grade 5' with distinction?

Perhaps you could organise a 'practical teaching' session for Porscha at UK7, Will?

We never did sort out the E90Post band, NFS- I'm sure Carl would still be suitable for triangle.

If a bunch of individuals on myspace can create a film, it shouldn't be too difficult for the likes of us to film a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody in the back of an E91, should it?
