Burning smell after installing catless downpipes and smoke.

Hello all, I just had my catless dp's installed and the car smells like something is burning at times. Perhaps it's oil or fuel, I am not completely sure. There is also some white smoke from the tailpipes and at times from the right side of the engine bay. Any ideas? Thanks

Probably a sign of turbos seals going.

I had the same, going catless only shows the symptoms more.

Burning oil smell, mine puffed smoke while coming to a stop. Although the bright side is I ran it that way for about 18k miles before the turbos actually suffered.

If they are brand new with less then 100 miles they will burn off some stuff.

Most people don't wipe down the pipes after install but they should as hands get greasy and sometimes there is an oily residue on exhaust components from the manufacturing process.

would that make the car smoke or smell like oil burning? i am worried it may be turbo seals or oil dripping from the valve gaskets...

Yeah the car will smoke for a few minutes after you turn the car on the first time after installing the downpipes...Just like Jeff said its bc the oils and greases that tend to stick and get on the pipes that burn off...

For me I saw the smoking and the smell for the first ten minutes....After that the smoking went away but the smell remained for a day or so...After the day they were good to go (no smell/smoke)

it really might be the turbo seals going...time for some vargas or rbs...wish vargas would hurry up lol.

You sure it's not just condensation built up in the exhaust that's more noticeable now that it's winter? Take some logs & see if you're still hitting the right boost levels. Otherwise I think Vargas Stage 1s are ready to go, PM Tony on the ETA for Stage 2 + 3s (if you're going that aggressive)

If your running a full catless set-up it will smell like burning fuel/oil since its straight combustion gasses escaping the motor.

Also white smoke is typically a sign of burning coolant not oil. Since its cold out I would chalk most of your issues to condensation.
