I own an E91 model (320d ES).

I currently have 16" double spoke alloys type 154 (205/55/R16) like these http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw...w_154_wheel_32

I want to perhaps upgrade to maybe 17, 18 inch alloys but not sure if they will fit ok e.g. these alloys come on 225/40/R18 (front) and 255/35/R18 (rear) http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw...93m_wheel_1051

How can I be certain they will fit ok before purchasing? I have seen calculators but don't necessarily understand offset from strut, etc

What tyre/alloy sizes e.g. tyre width; profile height, etc would fit my car with minimum fuss? (straight swap over)

I know this sounds as though I am clueless but I was worried in case they stuck out or affected whether I could put a full steering lock on without them 'rubbing'.

Bobo, those wheel sizes you linked to, 18x8 ET34, 18x8.5 ET37 have the same size and offset (Offest is ET34, ET37) as the M-Sport wheels which are a factory option. So that is the simple explanation why they should fit without any hassles.

So it really is as simple as removing my R16 and putting on the R18 wheels?

Yes. BMW only make one size of the factory wheels. Even though they might be a few mm difference in clearance between on some of the model variants, it is a case of one-size-fits-all for standard BMW wheels on E90, E91, E92, E93. The M3 is a different matter. Anyway there's no problem to put the staggered 18" wheels and tyres on your car even though the car was delivered with 16".

Yes, all OEM wheels made for the e9x, 16" to 19" will fit on your e91.

just a thought, would wheels off a 1 series fit my 320d touring?

seen some for sale and although they are still 16" I do prefer the style to my current ones (they are even on the same tyre 205/55/R16) so my assumption is simply yes but wanted to check

Well its good to check. 1 series wheels have larger offsets, so although they will probably function ok, there will be an increased gap of around 10mm between the tyre and the fender. Its going to look a bit funny and I am not sure whether it might have some effect on the steering and/or suspension. You will have a similar situation if you use the wheels from an E46 series on your E91. That is why it is best to know the offsets of the wheels when making your decision.

18" and 19" wheels are a normal upgrade around here on E90Post.

8.0 +34 and 8.5 +37 can work without a problem. You actually have more then enough room to work with to add some spacers for a more flush fitment if you would like.

Since the spacers sits between the wheel and the brakediscs, they'll push the wheels outwards, and this will lower the effective offset of the wheel.

So if you put 10mm spacers on a ET44 wheels, you'll end up with ET34. (44 -10=34.

Yes, all the OEM wheels for the e9x will fit your e91.

but the offsets for my current wheels are different they are ET34 (front) and ET37 (rear) so thought I'd have to stick to these sizes i.e. not deviate from them

would I need spacers for ET39? would they stick out or would they be flush without spacers?

I really just want to do a straight swap without problems you see.

Yes, the OEM 19" wheels has a slightly different offset, but it's only a couple of mm.

Is your e91 a lci, if not, 10mm spacers in the rear would make the rear wheels sit more flush.

LCI means the facelifted model that came in 2009. If it's a 2006 to 2008 model it's not a facelift.
