BMW Maintenance and 3rd Party Service
Kid Fresh:
I too am considering Alpha Warranty Services thru CarChex. The Platinum option is an exclusionary contract, meaning if it isn't listed as being excluded, then it's covered. They also have a "Wear and Tear" option that includes diagnotics, seals & gaskets for an extra $175, and that seems worth it. My 2008 550 has 43,000 miles on it, and if I bought the warranty today, 5yr/100,000 miles with a $100 deductible would be $2553, with $0 deductible- $2803. Considering that I drive less than 1,000 miles a month, I figure I could hold off on purchasing the warranty for probably another 5 months (and still get it before the original warranty runs out). The cost will probably go up as my car will be 1 more year older, but I won't be paying for 5 months of overlapping coverage. As for the MAINTENANCE warranty from BMW--that will cost me $2295 and will only last 6 years from the date my car was put into service, which was July 07--so only until July 2013. If I buy the Maintenance warranty in July 2010 before my 50,000 mile warranty runs out, it will only be good for 3 years (2013) or 100,000 miles. I tried to find a 3rd party warranty company that covers maintenance, but it was impossible. I also called several dealers in different states and they all quoted me the same price for the extended maintenance, so I'm not sure why others found they could negotiate with the dealer. If I were to purchase both the Service and the extended maintenance warranties, that's a pretty good chunk of change! I honestly wonder if my 08 550 will really cost me more than $5000 if I keep it for another 5 or 6 years and 100,000 miles?? I guess that's the gamble you take in buying these warranties or not.... |

I am also completing 4 years on my 07 e90 in Nov10. Earlier this year I tried many companies to get the quotes for extended warranties. I was thinking about going with Mercury insurance group, they give me the phone number of a local agent and I got a quote for $1775 for their best platinum policy (exclusions only policy) for 5 yrs/75K miles with $100 deductible. I had 23K miles when I got this quote.
I just sent them email again to check the prices. I heard Mecury insurance provide the hassle free coverage. Last edited by munu; 12-29-2009 at 04:04 PM.. |

I got a quote from Carchex and the first option was a warranty from VEMECO with these terms:
Vemeco, Inc. Ultimate 48 months / 100,000 miles $100.00 30 days & 1000 miles 12/29/2013 100,000 miles Cost: $2752 Does anyone have experience with Vemeco?

Just confirmed again, mercury insurance group is offering 5 yr/75K mile warranty for my 07 335i (28K miles) for $1775 with $100 deductible or $1900 with $0 deductible. This is for their best platinum coverage.
Thinking of getting it soon as the rate goes up with new year as car becomes one more year old. Any suggestion on what all I need to check. I would like to buy it by 31st |

INteresting you said $900 for front brakes, another thread said $1700. $900 is much better, but still outrageous of course. I've always DIY on the 12 y.o. Nissan, incl. calipers. But oddly, a guy at work who said he used to be a BMW tech said let the dealership do it...
I think pay to play applies to BMWs. No free lunch, and the car cannot be Japanese-like where you buy it as you would a Nissan, or tv or Blu Ray or digital SLR and pass on the warranty without thinking twice... $440 for radiator flush, wow, 10X the going rate.... I'm planning on the 7/100 Gold and buy 3 years of peace-of-mind, it's $3900 list, let's see if I can save a few... Since one can save a boatload of money on going non-BMW, have people had experiences with them that were just fine? I'm still leaning towards original owner protection.... |
