PPK+PE install

I just dropped off my brand new 2010 335i e90 (326mi) to the shop at Dreyer & Reinbold North for the PPK and PE install. The service rep said he would call me today when they get some of the parts stripped off and I'll go down and take a look at the surgery.

I'm hoping to get the car back tomorrow. I'm as giddy as a school girl

I'll try to post some pics and review asap.

I poked my head into the shop and here are some pics of the install...the PE is already installed and they are getting ready to start with the PPK. Forgive the crappy photography (cell phone). The tips on the PE look really good in person.

Pics below are 1) the uninstalled stock exhaust on floor; 2) the new fan for the PPK; 3) & 4) the new PE installed on car.

As you can see, the PE eliminates the resonator and adds an x-pipe.

The tech and service rep were both very helpful and let me snoop around and take these pics...good guys.

The tech said he was hoping to install the PPK hardware this afternoon and install the software tomorrow...hopefully the software install will go smoothly.

Great info (I'm thinking Perf Exhaust, also) - thanks for posting!

Thanks. I'm pretty excited...I hope they get the car back to me tomorrow. If not, I'll be driving the 328i x-drive loaner all weekend.

Ugh...I'm not getting the car back today . I went to the shop this afternoon and checked on their progress. They had the front bumper and wheel wells removed, and were installing the new plugs, fan and radiator, air ducts, etc.

Apparently, they started loading software and it fried the JBE ...they ordered another one and are hoping to have it Monday morning.

So, the weather is sunny here (first day in a month!) and I'm stuck driving the 328xi loaner or my Tahoe. Hopefully, I'll get the car back on Monday (my birthday! that would be a great present!).

This is a very good price. I was quoted $3,500.00 for the PPK alone...already had the PE installed...forgot how much...almost $2k

I just re-checked my paperwork...it was $4,064 plus tax. I think the PPK price has come down a lot since it was first introduced. So, you might want to check if you can get a better price now. I dont think the PE price has changed as much.

Also, the fact that I was buying a $53,350 car at the same time probably helped me get a good price on the mods.

Update: Picked up the car this afternoon at about 6pm ET. I have only had a chance to drive it about 20 miles, so I'm sure the car is not fully adapted yet to the PPK. But, I definately notice a difference in power . FWIW, I have not driven a 335 with a piggy or Dinan flash...so I cant compare to those. I can compare to my 2007 335 ZSP which I had for two years (stock). This new car is 2010 e90 ZSP and immediately after the PPK and PE install, it clearly makes more power further into the revs (i.e. north of 4.5k rpm). The 29.2-ish lag seems to be reduced (if not eliminated).

The exhaust is a little tamer than I expected. It sounds good, but I was expecting a little more throatiness/deep tone and pop. But, there is no discernable drone and it has a nice burble to it. Overall, very nice sound and the chrome tips look really good to me.

Ty Ancona (service rep) and Martin (service tech) at Dreyer & Reinbold-North took very good care of me. They kept me updated and allowed me to look at the car several times during the installation (my office is next-door to the dealership). Everything went smoothly except for a fried JBE on the first try and now I have a malfunctioning left headlite (adaptive headlight and low beam malfunction errors). Apparently, the reinstallation of the headlight is not quite right yet. I'm sure they'll iron that out without any problems.

So far, I'm happy. But, I'll know more later this week after having put another hundred miles on the car.

For those considering the PPK, I want to mention that the install was more invasive than I expected (I'm naive). When I walked into the service area on Saturday morning, the car was up on the lift and it looked like it was in full-on autopsy. They had to remove the bumper cover, bumper, left headlight assy, left fender well, glove box assy, stereo head unit, dash trim, etc, not to mention replacing the fan and a some of the coolant plumbing...coolant dripping all over the floor. It was sickening to see a brand new $54,000 car in that state (car had 326 miles on it). They got the car put back together quickly today...but it is definately NOT a quick bolt on upgrade and a quick re-flash...it's a little gorry and not for the squeamish. Just FYI.

I'll post a more thorough review once I feel that the car is adapted (maybe end of this week or early next).

BTW/UNRELATED: On Saturday, M3Post member Fansari brought his 2009 e92 M3 with DKG and Eisenmann race exhaust, BMW Performance seats and steering wheel (and a ton of other first-class mods) to my office for a visit and it sounded like a freakin' F1 car. I think he'll be posting pics of his phenomenal M3 on M3Post very soon...check it out when he does. His car is sick, sick, sick.

OP - you mention that you're waiting for the car to adapt.

Since the PPK is a reflash, how much adaptation would there be? I.e., wouldn't the upgraded engine performance kick in immediately?

Just wondering...
