best way to reduce roll?
whats the best way to reduce roll in my 335i? i am very impressed with the stock suspension. its a good trade off between comfort and performance. however i'd like to decrease the amount of body roll during corning. i really dont want to replace the springs....is there a noticeable difference in after mkt anti sway bars in there cars?

M3 bars ... definitely.
I had the stock suspension plus the M3 sways, it made a big difference in cornering .... I could toss the car a lot freer than usual. No hesitation. The rear is a PITA because you have to drop the subframe which is major $$ .... a few hundred bucks for labor. So just do the front. The rear only makes sense if you are replacing the subframe brushings with the M3 ones and getting an LSD installed.

Yes it comes with sway bar bushings, he is referring to M3 subframe bushings since you have to drop the subframe to do the sway bar

to reduce under-steer, stiffen the rear sway bar.

Traditionally that is what one may want to do. However, with so much front roll and camber change induced by the roll the front outside tire is literally riding on its sidewall. By keeping the outside front tire more upright through the use of larger front anti roll bar(alternatively, you could use stiffer springs, lower the center of gravity...ect.), front traction is greatly improved...And guess what? More front traction and less understeer.

BUT! Should not install rear without a Limited Slip Differential, which if you install, you will drop to your knees to thank GOD for. It's that good. While you're in there, replace the rear subframe bushings. Did mine in my garage. In fact, as I type, I'm sitting in HP Autowerks' parking lot waiting for them to open so's I can return their bushing R&R tool. Worked great, and though any new procedure takes 10X as long as it might the second time, it wasn't difficult to drop the rear subframe and replace all the suspension parts. Really. Did ALL. Excellent experience! |
