"Throwing" is probably the worst possible verb to use!
I've heard rumours that Phil Morrison's old V10 E46 ran him up over £100k to build. Now that fine when it's a showcase for your business but can you really afford to throw tat away? The E46 was advertised at £35k recently..

Haha, i can imagine it wouldn't be as simple as "throwing it in". I just have sometime on my hands and wouldn't mind a project...

Sadly, I don't have either 1 series or v8 m3 engine. I do, however have an e91 and s85 power plant :-D. It's just an idea, a very tempting one though...

Anything is possible with the right skills and money. I can't imagine 100k for an engine swap, maybe full conversion everything brand new and including man hours.
If people can swap engines from other cars and drive trains in to cars, then yes, putting an engine that has the same drivetrain and manufacturer is definitely possible. Get some mounts made, line everything else up, work out how to control and map it, sort dash out, sort the gearbox and drivetrain, pretty much done. |

I couldn't agree more with you mate. I cannot think of why would it cost 100k. Engine 4-5k, gearbox 2-3k. ecu etc 2-4k. other bits, 5-8k. Where is another 80k??? I don't want to sound ignorant, but I think I can do it for less than 100k:-) Perhaps it's me thinking of using used parts but I personally don't need brand new gearbox or engine for a swap.

Kassim, I can only dream of 100k, lol! I dont mind having a go with my, much, much smaller budget though. If it will work, great, if not - I have tried:-)

TO be fair, I think that was including labour and the like - but then a lot of the work that he did, he was only able to do because of him owning Driftworks and being right next door to and knowing the Dynotorque guys so well.
Have a look at the thread over on E46Zone. Blair on there put an LS1 in an E46 and is ran him about £11k I think he said. He knows Phil personally and he commented that the wiring, ECU and dash alone to run the S85 in V1 TEN ran him more than the cost of Blair's 357i project complete! http://www.e46zone.com/forum/topic/3...10-conversion/ That said, with the V10, it was about so much more than the engine alone. The rest of the car would still have been a very customised M3 even with the original lump. Be interesting to see this if you decide to do it!
