I own a 2007 BMW 328xi Sedan. It’s a base package with the 16inch wheels. I purchased square 18x8 35 5x120 Alzor 030 wheels. I’m looking for some dedicated summer tires (open to suggestions) but mostly looking for help on the size.

Will I run into any issues with the following?
225/40/18 (front)
255/35/18 (rear)

My father in law has an e90 coupe and that’s what came stock on his so I’m happy to just go with that.

You should be good with 225/40/18 on a squared setup without any rubbing.

You wrote that the new wheels are square, why put staggered tires on the same size wheel as front? Besides, a 255 is too wide for an 8” wheel.

Well I was following the configuration of the stock e90 coupe that my father in law has and working to upgrade to R18 from R16. I meant squared in that the wheels are the same front and rear, 18x8. For the tires, this is what his coupe has so I was starting there.

Looks like the e90 came with a different front and rear tire with the sport packages, no?

One thing I just thought about is that his coupe may not be awd and I think I read somewhere that awd has to have a squared setup for the tires as well. I could be wrong. So if I’m going squared wheel configuration of 18x8 you’re thinking that 225/40/18 would be a good configuration all around?

you should have gotten 8.5 or 9 wide rims if u wanted 255. with what u have i would do 245/40/18

245/40/18 front and rear? Any rubbing issues? I’m not sold on 255 by any means. I just got a second set of alzor 030 rims for 3 season tires and don’t want any additional.

I just knew the 16inch stock wheels look stupid and got these super cheap as a better alternative that couldn’t look worse.

yeah, at stock ride height it wont rub, though will have a little larger sidewall profile than stock sizes, even at msport height it barely rubs on severe compression in front.

How about 235/40/18 all around on 18x8? Seems like a popular configuration with a lot of tire options. Wish I could find some photos.

245 is a more common/cheap size iirc and the wider the tire the better for handling

245/40/18 is a really tall tyre and wide tyre on an 18x8 wheel - I would advise against running this.

I have run a square setup of 235/40/18 on 18x8 wheels on an E81 130i and it was a good fitment.

245/40 is only .3 inch taller than 235/40 (.6 over 225/40) and lots of manufacturer put 245 on 8, no difference than 255 on 8.5 (max tire for width)

you have a limit, but you can run stretch or meaty tire on wheels if you want.

One of my car got 235 on 9''.

Ive the sport pack with xdrive and it's staggered.

OEM size are : 225/40/18 on 8'' & 255/35/18 on 8.5''

Im running : 235/40/18 & 265/35/18. I like this look.


Overall diameter is not the same, but in 0.4%, so in xdrive spec.

IMO, will look weird to have different/staggered tire sizes on square wheels. Should have gotten staggered wheels if you wanted a wider rear.

Being xdrive you CAN go staggered, just make sure tire diameter is within 1% front to rear.

But in your case, if you already have the wheels, I’d find a square tire setup that has the right wheel fit you’re looking for. Can always use a spacer if needed for flushing out the fenders.

depends , I did reverse on my winter set : staggered wheels with square tires.

And its hard to tell. not the same, but still, doubt it would look that bad.

I'd like to swap my square 17" 285s on E91 LCI RWD with 193M

I have an E90 with 225/40/18 on 8'' & 255/35/18 on 8.5'' on 18" 313 - sidewall "feels too thin" for the road pavement conditions along my commute route.

yes on 193 and I went 1 size bigger than OEM. I like 193 since they ''look'' bigger than 18'' because of the branches reaching the edge of the barrel.

I received the tires and damn it looks wide.

Ill have the speed cluster off a little bit tho

it shouldn't look too funny, here a member with 265 on 8.5'' oem bmw wheels

Knowing that I already have the 18x8 rims, I think I’m gonna go for 235/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 s for the summer. Maybe use spacers in the rear if I want to flush out the fenders a bit.

Seem logical?

This is a daily driver, completely stock. Just looking for something with a smooth ride to fit these rims and no additional complications.

Am I right in thinking that a typical “sport” setup is 18x8 in the front and 18x8.5 in the rear. Knowing that I am going with 18x8 all around and square with the tires, a 12.5mm hubcentric spacer in the rear would bring it out that .5 (recreating the 18x8 and 18x8.5 essentially) and probably make a more “sport” flush look for rear?
