2009 iDrive - BMW Search -"not available"

On several occasions, I've tried to bring up BMW search, and after a minute or two of hourglass, I get a message that says it's Not Available.

Are others having the same issue?

Yes. I've forgotten that its even there.

They've had some days of outages recently. It's back up now. If that doesn't do the trick go to the BMW assist menu... I think it's under settings, select 'reload BMW assist', that will likely bring it back to life. It's been an iffy service for me.. the first time reloading brought it back. Then a week later it was out again. I called BMW customer relations from the car and they told me the servers were having issues and it would be back in 72 hours. It was and has been fine since.

Do you have the convienient plan?
Search function is only available through that plan.

Correct. BMW Search (Google Search really) is an extra cost feature from BMW. Sending destinations through Google Maps is part of the free, included features of ownership with iDrive.
