What is the factory spec for idle speed for N54?

Thats where mine usually is, but every once in a while it will bump up to 800-850 rpm and stay there. Not sure why, maybe for additional cooling?

650RPM until you remove the primary cats...then it begins at 650 and then settles at 800 when the engine is warmed up. These are my observations on the matter.

Mine appear to have two idle speeds. 650ish and 775ish, I don't know why, but thats what it does and has been doing since I owned it.

My car idles around 600. Always has been that way. Maybe the different idle speeds are determined by outside temp? Just a thought.

650rpm always sometimes 720rpm, but I saw as high as 800rpm when using V5 DIC map.

Hence the reason why I asked, I just noticed the 2 idle speeds, It's not exactly hot here yet, no AC, why does it idle at higher speed once warmed up???

Mine idles around 600. Sometimes it stumbles a bit and thats when it goes up to 800, and the stumbles stop. Not sure if its a misfire, but I'm pretty sure it bumps up to 800 as a result of the stumbling.

Hey I've been getting that high rpm symptoms where it would stutter a quick sec the rpm climbs to about 800. Did you know what was the cause of it? Was it a sign to change the spark plugs?

I get the same thing. I have no idea why that happens. Spark plugs didn't help, coils didn't either. I also changed my tmap recently.. didn't help.

Never changed injectors or oxygen sensors.

Cool

Dealership Changed Coils, Spark plugs, Oxygen Sensors and decarbonized injectors and My Car still has 2 idling rpms. It usually idles at 550 but occasionally my car shakes/shivers and rpm jumps to 700 and stays there till I turn my car off and restart it.

Yes,

That's part of it. It is normal for idles to pick up. So far I've seen three states. The normal 650ish Idle, 750-800rpm idle, then a 1,100rpm idle after a heavy run in 85F-90F weather.

I believe it depends on your battery voltage as well, I know the car will idle high if your battery voltage isn't enough, especially on newer cars with regenerative coasting. ( Dynamic Drive )

The N54 is really quite an advance engine, and has been over engineered apart from the craptastic waste gates and HPFP :b

....I know I'm reserecting an old thread, but has anyone used the option in MHD to increase their idle speed a little?

My 07' 335i idles around 650-ish rpms. But if I press on the pedal ever so slightly and raise the idle to around 750-800 rpms.....it seems to really smooth out the idle. It also gets rid of some of the cabin resonance/vibration I sometimes hear when sitting at a light when the car is in gear (maybe a side effect of the catless downpipes??).

Is there any downside to bumping up the idle a little bit in order to smooth it out?

No downside, and yes I have done it. I needed to raise it to ~850 because I have stiff motor mounts, so it smooths out the vibrations. I actually just used INPA the 2nd time since I switched back to a stock map to smog the car, but still needed a higher idle due to the stiff mounts.

Hello 2019!!!! I have this exact issue. Smcae starts. Idles at 1k rpm. Idle then drops to 550-600 rpm and its a little Lumpy. Give it another 100-200 rpm and it smooths out. Previous owner mapped car. I wonder if that is a consequence of the map. No info on it. Did anyone ever find a solution to this? Mine results in some components clunking together jn the engine bay which goes away when this smooths out so keen for a fix. Cheers
