This is a picture of a more typical ANPR set up.
What's odd about the original picture is: 1. The van looks quite old. 2. The boxing for the camera on the roof looks ramshackle. 3. The van seems to have refrigeration or air con. 4. The speed camera logo on the side is incongruous. I have a feeling that it might be full of CID watching something specific. |

you know these days police use cameras which read and scan plates automatically to see if a vehicle is on a watch list. Police cars sometimes have these cameras installed in them. In the USA police use to run plates manually on the internal laptop but these days its all automatic.
I'm not sure if this van is the same because it really does not need to be such a big vehicle... |

I did come across an ANPR van with a speed camera sign on the side when trawling the web yesterday, but can't find it again.

No to the picture I posted.
The original picture is still a bit of a mystery. On the basis that I think it's full of CID I would say that it's probably a 'no', but there is the risk that, if they don't like the look of you, they might take you down to the station and give you a good kicking. |

These vans are known to be infested by vermin. Apparantly it is your duty to apply a bit of hose to the exhaust and feed it into the front window.
This is a humane way of disposing of the said vermin and therefore saves all of your stored goodies in your garage, prevents annoying trails of droppings around your kitchen and avoids wallet lightening letters being dropped on your doormat. |
