F.a.o 335d people!

just wondering if anyone had experianced any dirty diesel smoke yet?

i havent noticed any yet but every other diesel i see on the road (mainly VW diesles) smoke like f**k....

wondering if ours did too, im also wondering abotu a re-map will this cause excess smoke under heavy throttle after a re-map?

just asking because when i lined up next to a small skoda diesel at santa pod which had been tuned to 250bhp, he 'burnt out' and i have never seen such a plume of black smoke come out of a diesel and i presume this is because its not standard and running more boost

any discussion welcome

Well I haven't followed a 335d yet, but I thought the latest BMW Euro IV compliant diesel engines with particulate filters had virtually zero "particle emissions", which means no black smoke. Hopefully a re-map won't have any negative affect on this.

I agree though, some other diesels around still pump out a lot of black smoke - seems to be the ones with down-turned tailpipes.

The particulate filter is very effective. Zero black smoke. Even with a re-map, there's no visible black smoke at all.

Same for me, too.

Very impressive. Just faint whisps of condensation on a cold day - otherwise - NADA.

Unhappy 335d Smoke?

I hope not! I just ordered mine and can't stand those other 'smoker' cars. Maybe I should chahge to 335i?

335d Stats

Anyone know what the in-gear performance stats are for this, e.g. 30 - 50, 50 - 70..., bearing in mind it's auto only?

i'm actually in disbelief with the quality of the particle filter... even after two months the inside of the tailpipe looks like its fresh of the factory line (in fact at this precise second until the car gets a good seeing to tomorrow its probably the cleanest part of the car )

Agree with you Zim, I was looking at the exhausts this evening and the only marks on them were where I cleaned it last week, not the slightest sign of soot at all after two months.

Mercs and VW/Audis are great for black smoke. My mates A4 which has been chipped has a habit of making people think there's a solar eclipse when he puts his clog down.

Regards

Chris

Also the Ford 1.8 TDCi. We nicknamed my Dad's last company Focus the squid because of how it would disappear behind an inky black cloud.

Had my 335D coupe since late sept and its done 8.5K miles ..tailpipes are still very clean.

Last fill-up (brimmed) 557.8 miles on 58 Litres.
OBC said 44.1 but its works out at 43.7MPG..shocking

That's a bit of a sore point - currently pootling about in a Astra 1.4 rental having traded my car in early.

Order in for a 335...............i

Been 4 weeks so far - I've learnt one thing, to be very humble on the road!

real close call re the d, just don't do that much mileage so tipped it for the i

Cheers

Ouch! I can think of only one thing worse... a 1.2 Skoda Fabia Estate. That teaches you all about energy management and cowering in the inside lane

The mileage didn't come into it when choosing our 335d, we only do 10K a year. It was the relaxed driving and instant go (coming from an M3) that switched us to BMW diesels.

Regards
