Z4 coupe or roadster
Help me please! Looked at both today and can't decide.
Both are 3.0 not M, coupe is the newer si engine. Coupe is £2.5k more but I'd probably spend most of the saving on getting the roadster how I want it (facelift lights, new wheels etc). It won't be my everyday car but something for the weekend sir. Please don't say "up your budget to the m" I can't. |

Depends on what you want
Depends on what you want from your car. If you want the best track car then the coupe every time. If you want the most fun, then open top motoring is hard to beat.
I'd never buy a roaster as a first car but as a weekend special, its hard to match the enjoyment that open top motoring brings on a nice day. The coupe is in essence more of the same....2 seats sure, but its still very similar but press the button and drop the roof and you have a totally different experience that are most enjoyable. Open topped motoring through beautiful countryside is worth trying with at least 1 car in your lifetime. Having done it myself, I can thoroughly recommend it as one on the nicest ways to spend a weekend. I only went roadster when I had to sell my motorcycle due to a dodgy back. Now I have one, there's no going back! |

I'm leaning towards the coupe because it's rare and the roadster is for girls..... No, I'm leaning towards the roadster because it'll be cheap fun, a little more special and it has the carver stereo. The coupe looks too much like a Capri..... No, I'm going coupe aaaaaaarrrrgggh!

Make a plan
If you're not careful, by the time you've made up your mind the summer will be over (assuming it ever starts) and they'll both be sold.
So just make a plan. a. Buy the roadster, then next year if not perfectly happy, sell it and buy a coupe. You'll only lose depreciation and the other unit will depreciate at the same rate and will be cheaper, so minimal cost to you or, b. Buy the coupe then next year if not perfectly happy, sell it and buy a roadster There's always plenty of units around so finding good used examples is not hard. |

I drive the other half's TT Roadster very occasionally, theres nothing like a top-down blast along a nice stretch of road, however I would never want a soft-top for my everyday car.

Garage List 2008 350Z GT Roadster [2.00]
2004 Honda S2000 [0.00] 2005 Nissan 350Z GT ... [0.00] 2006 E92 BMW 335i SE [9.00] 2003 Maserati 4200 [6.00] 2006 E90 330d M Sport [0.00] |
I always have this same dilemma. My purchase of my S2000 was made easy as there was no coupe equivilant and my first 350Z the roadster wasn't yet available so got a coupe. Now it's roadster all the way unless it a) looks shite or b) is a bit gay .
I had the exact same problem when I was looking at a Z4M (which you should buy by the way ) but think I'd have to go against the grain and get the coupe. It just looks soooooooooooo good and think the roadster looks a touch on the girly side (not MX5 girly just a bit debatable). To be fair SteveC's suggestion to fight depreciation does make a lot of sense.

Unless you're a hairdresser it has to be the coupe. Although be prepared for a bumpy ride and the visibility is shite IMO.
It is a cracking looking car and is loads of fun! Have you thought about a boxster/cayman.... Pic of my old one.... |

If it's for the w/e, then it has to be the roadster
Can't beat a bit of open top motoring on a nice day!

Originally I was looking for a boxster but the cost of repairs and the fact that there will probably be plenty of them terrifies me. Cayman is out of my budget but if I had the money I'd get one over the boxster anyday.
I don't know why my feeling isn't so definite with the z4. Interestingly enough I took my wife to see both today and she much preferred the coupe. She said it had a wow factor that the roadster didn't. Maybe the roadster isn't for girls after all. |
