Best aftermarket warranty for a 335i?

I'm looking to buy a 335i with 40,000 miles on it and the warranty expires at 50,000 miles as everyone knows. I'm on good terms with a dealer be who would be willing to CPO any used BMW I get for the low $2k's as a very friendly gesture. Knowing this I started my search, but the ideal 335i for me just happened to have aftermarket exhaust, which negates it from passing CPO inspection.

The car has several cosmetic mods which would save me money and I can't find another one like it so I'm considering getting an aftermarket warranty and I know 95%+ of these warranties are worthless which is why I wanted to CPO in the first place so I'm looking for some input on what warranties are best. I want a warranty company and program with less than a $50 deductible that offers a loaner and has amazing review while being hassle free.

The best aftermarket warranty = No Aftermarket Warranty. It is all a scam.

I have to agree. I bought my 335 with 40220 miles on it in May. I reseached every aftermarket warranty company AND BMW who wouldn't tell me what their warranty DIDN'T cover and they were all crap. Do the research...check online...I guarantee that any company you're considering, if you research them online you'll fine something negative.
I immediately took my car to local dealership for oil and checkup. My service tech (WHO WORKS FOR BMW) told me..."Unless you drive your car over 15K miles per year, you won't get your money's worth from the extended warranty."
I'm fortunate that my 335 is one of two cars I own so I will only put about 6K-7K miles on it per year...but even if your car is a daily driver, if you're not putting 12K-15K miles on it per year (and hopefully your aren't with the additional mods) then the warranty is an unneeded expense.
If you're worried about it, be disciplined and put some money aside eash month in case the worst happens. Otherwise, just don't demolish your car.
Good luck!!!

What does mileage per year have to do with anything? I might trust my BMW tech to repair my car but not to estimate it's risk factor...BMW clearly has a separate department for this as evidenced by the fact they offer their own warranty insurance...

There is no aftermarket warranty that is bumper to bumper, this is true, but that doesn't mean they are necessarily bad investments, considering that insurance companies lose money on some policies and make money on others, inverting this gives you the consumerized version saying that you want to be on the end where they lose money, meaning they pay out to you more than you paid in...given the 335's reputation I'd reckon that it is a prime candidate for a 3rd party warranty (this coming from someone who's consistently defending it's reputation when faced with unfair reliability claims)

I'd never buy a BMW without some sort of warranty. They are good cars don't get me wrong but ALL cars need regular maintenance and parts after 50k miles. If it was a honda or a toyota then sure theres no need the out of pocket expense arent bad (cheap parts). But the parts for BMW are expensive and repair labor (if you cany do it yourself) is more expensive for these cars than others.

I had an 1999 e39 528i that I got initially at 60k miles. Once you start to hit those miles things will have to be replaced. It was a great car but every few months something needed to be changed and the shop I took it to never charged extra for parts and labor was $60 an hr. But I was still spending a $600-1000 or more a year or so getting things fixed here and there.

Also its a 335i and quite frankly compared to the 328i this car is a problem child...Get a warranty and save yourself the headache.

I agree with this 100% with a 335 you'd be brave to own one without warranty. I use my car for business and as a dd so I need it, if it was a weekend cruiser then thats a different story.

I've been problem free till now (63000kms) and now I have morning misfires that BMW cant seem to fix, going back to the dealer next week. Every car has problems but not this expensive to fix.

I researched it when I purchased my 335i.
I found that AAA Autoguard had a good reputaion and at least at that point in time I found nothing negative.

BMW's extended warranty

BMW offers an official "BMW" extended warranty. I am going off of memory so forgive any errors.....You can mix and match for either 70K or 100k miles and either 6 or 7 yrs. There are 3 different levels of coverage: Powertrain, Gold and Platinum. They all have $50 deductables. The Gold warranty coverage appears to be identical to the CPO coverage, neither of which covers NAV/I-drive and stereo. Platinum adds addl. coverage for the NAV/I-drive and stereo. I think the Platinum for 7 yr/100k miles is like $3400 retail. Hope this helps!

OP, I am in the same boat as you. If you happen to buy a car that is CPO, that's one thing. But I would not spend $2k to get it CPO'd for a few reasons. The CPO warranty coverage is a bit lacking for my comfort and it only makes sense if you drive a lot of miles as it's only 2 year or 50k miles.

I would rather opt for BMW's extended warranty program. Their basic powertrain warranty is similar to the CPO in coverage and you get go specify how many years & miles you want to add to the warranty however the max is 7/100. So in theory you don't pay for what you don't use and can add an additional year. There are some other aftermarket warranty options as well that you may want to entertain, I posted on this topic a couple weeks ago...haven't pulled the trigger yet, still have a several more months to go.

mkPOTO is seems like you're hanging back and watching from the sidelines as well...PM me when you actually purchase something, I'll be interested to see what you end up getting. I'm leaning towards the Ford ESP...

It's a review process the dealer goes through to certify a used car for sale with an extended warranty. Someone correct me if Im wrong but I believe it is 6 years/100,000 miles from its in service date.

I purchased mine through BMW. The salesman didn't recommend the CPO because I don't put many miles on the car. He suggested I'd get (Forgot the name) because I can mix and match miles and years. I ended up getting the additional 60k/6yrs for around 2500 with a 100 dollar deductible. I'll get back to you on the name of the company I went through. This covers pretty much everything, but maintenance stuff. The salesman said it was the best outside company as far as extended warranty goes and has never had a problem with them.

I just drop $100/month into a separate bank account (so $1200/yr). If there is an issue with the car then that money can pay for it. If there isnt an issue with the car then hey-- I get to keep the money!
