Is there a specil tool required for taking out spark plugs?
I decided to change them and found that a regular 14 star deep socket ( Which fits the plugs) does not reach the plug when its in the cylinder since it seems like the socket is a little to thick.... so is there a special tool needed? any help would be appreciated,
thanks |

To rephrase my question-- I saw online they have a special socket thats like 50 bucks plus a guide tool--- is this necessary or can you use a non BMW tool?

Some companies sell the socket with a magnet already in it too. But yes, you need the spark-plug socket tool.

You could probably also take a standard deep socket that's too large in diameter and have it turned down to a usable diameter at a machine shop for about $10 or so. I have a really deep socket just like the Burger one (looks just like it but chrome) that came with a set of wheel nuts for my S2000. I may see if it'll fit in the spark plug holes of the 335 and if it doesn't, I'll just see if one of the machinists at work can turn it down a bit for me. I'll also probably stick some rubber hose inside it to grab the spark plug.

I used an angle grinder on my socket and it works fine.... +1 on the telescopic magnet
