Just Moved to Calgary

So I just moved myself from Lethbridge to Calgary on the weekend. I'm living just west of the old Chidlren's Hospital. My office is in Mission (right across from Joyce on 4th and kitty corner to Earls Tin Palace for those familiar), so I commute through Mount Royal instead of down 17th. Talk about a lovely little drive. Lots of E90s in Mission, too. Not to mention the $100k+ toys you see every 10 minutes or so.

Anyway, hello.

Luckily I don't have to venture out onto the Deerfoot 500 - everything I need is within a few blocks of work/home. I only have a 4KM commute, so that's wonderful.

I lived in Calgary for 2 years.

And I hated it. All because of the Deadfoot. I moved back to Edmonton and it is no better, but at least my commute to work is 10 mins versus 45 mins in Calgary.

Plus, the Henday is mostly compete, and when I have to go to meetings in Nisku/Leduc it makes it a lot easier.

Welcome to Calgary. I've lived here for 15 years now, and while I've seen the city go through some major changes in the past decade, I'd still consider this a much nicer city to live in comapred to other large North American centres.

Having grown up in the U.K. however, the same cannot be said of the drivers. The majority of Calgary drivers are set in their pioneer-esque, prairie ways, and have a rough time driving in any other lane other than the passing lane at or below the speed limit

I lived in Calgary on and off for five years or so. I don't think it can match Vancouver for quality of life, but the people were generally great, fantastic climate for business, and the drivers certainly aren't as bad as those here, or the ones in Toronto.

Not sure why people are so down on the commuting time. Like every other large city, there are plenty of inner city areas that mean your commute is five minutes, not 45. And even with the longer commutes, it's not even close to the hell 905ers go through getting into downtown Toronto.

Calgary...Full...No Vacancy.

The town has seen incredible growth, If E-town has 10 000 more people I guarantee Calgary has 20 000. So much more white collars business and associated services. Head offices.

Plus, no major bedroom communities besides Cohrane I guess. E-town has St Albert and the Park to absorb more people and cars.

Drivers in Alberta aren't nearly as bad as BC. To many right lane jammers. They have screwed up roads over there.

At least we're getting ring roads. Henday is a huge change for the roads up here.

Don't forget Okotoks or Airdrie.

I guess so on those two but they are a longer drive than basically the city limits like up here.

I guess commuting from Airdrie is something people do. It would be like driving from Camrose living out here, kinda long.
