tranny fluid and transfer case fluid change problem

Hi Guy,

I drove my friends 128i auto/rwd and his shifty was super smooth. Since i got my car i found the shifting jerky(slightly) you can feel every shift with a slight jolt. I have 100K KM or 60K miles on the car. Do you think changing my tranny fluid and transfercase fluid would help? or would it make it worse.

I've read people have had bad experience when changing fluid but thats when their transmission was already working properly and then it gave them problems. In my case its already a bit jerky. I am not sure if its a awd thing(this is my first awd car).

Any advice because its starting to take the fun out of the car.

If done properly, I don't suspect that the vehicle will be any worse off... I changed my transmission fluid and T/C fluid around 70k miles and am glad I did it. My transmission's shifts are smoother, whereas they were getting jerky. Likely due to the power I was making...

I'm also in the same boat except I have ~85K on the clock, and am thinking about having all the fluid changed. I'm a bit nervous however that it will cause more harm than good, espcially the transmmkission and transfer case as these are super expensive to replace.

If done correctly, this shouldn't be an issue, as experience has it.

Only way to damage your transmission and transfer case when changing oil is using the wrong oil. Just make sure you are using the right fluid and everything will be fine.
