Turbo Kits?
Hi all, new here.
Curious if anyone has turbocharged any of the N/A e90 engines? I have a 2011 Canadian model 323i which has the 2.5L 200hp engine. Also, what are the engine codes for the Naturally aspirated engines? N-something? Thanks! |

Welcome to the board. Please use the search button for future inquires as often times a topic you may have a question on has probably been covered in the past.
Currently there are 2 definite confirmed options for Supercharging our cars by asian companies. HOWEVER, no one here is willing to buy these kits as they are fairly expensive and have unreliable reports/information regarding their effectiveness. Gavin from MMW is currently working on a solution that will be ready for purchase sometime this year (hopefully). The last we heard from him on the project is that it would have a Vortech F5 unit running around 6psi on water/meth injection for under or near $8000 USD capable of around 300hp in his configuration. Since it is still under development and no dyno's have been performed yet, we are ALL waiting very eagerly for the latest and greatest on its progress. If you would like a more rapid means of getting horsepower NOW, you can safely run a 75 shot of wet nitrous. Also, there are many threads on the 3 stage manifold swap from the 330/530i, Active Autowerks tune, MMW headers, etc which coupled together could push your engine to around the 300 crank hp mark not including nitrous injection. Also, there are a few members, including myself, that are researching internal upgrades such as cams, pistons, rods, valves, etc. Please read the internals thread in this section on the first page to learn more. ^ He is technically right and I really don't see the point of forced induction especially on a brand new still in warranty N52 engined car.
Not to mention the cost of a kit would be close to the cost of an upgrade in model. But hey to each his own. As of right now, you should have got a 335i lol but A guy named Gavin is working on a supercharger, apparently... In any case do a search cause this topic needs a fork stuck in it badly, seeing as how it's been done since the dawn of the e90post. |

Don't bother turbo charging a 323... it requires more money than it's worth, seriously... especially if it's a 2011 with 4 years left on the warranty. If you're hell bent on doing something like that, get your self a nice little E46 and install a used supercharger.

Thanks guys. I'm not too serious about this as it is a DD for my GF, I was more curious than anything. Not at all surprised to see the 335 comment, I knew that would show up.
8K USD seems aweful high for a supercharger, especially for a 2.5-3L six... coming from the Corvette comunity, that kind of dough would get you a pretty nice SC setup, and at those power levels (600+hp) you're talking about much larger and higher flowing hardware. I guess the answer for a turbocharger is "no" then.  EDIT: Here's a top of the line Corvette SC kit for $6k USD: http://www.aacorvette.com/superchargers/ EDIT#2: Actually, those kits are on sale for $5.5k! No meth though...
