Nav disks release

Just curious... How often are there new Nav disks released? I live in an area that roads pop up daily, and I would like to get some of the new roads that have been built in the past year...

I've read once or twice a year. At least once I would imagine
If you have 2007.2, that's the latest. They'll probably release a new version early next year

Would it be safe to say that if mapquest finally has the roads on their map that the new nav disks would also have them???

You can buy them directly from NavTeq through their web site.

No. I don't know about MapQuest speicifically, but most online mapping services add their own patches to the road data. So it's completely possible that one service shows the roads, but the master NavTeq database hasn't added it yet.

FYI, NavTeq has a form on their web page so you can "suggest" new roads and fixes to their data. However, it's not clear to me if you'll know when it gets added to the actual CD you can buy.

No. Navteq lags way behind MapQuest. Click on the product info on the website to see if there is anything new in the area (they list all the updated areas).

Looked it up, and the newest version has no updates in Loudoun...

I would hope that they start getting some better coverage. Certain parts of Ashburn that have been up for about 1.5 years are not on my nav disk...

Now, I searched on their map one of the places that I think can severely be improved and it shows on their map. Does this mean that it will be on their newer nav disk? Maybe it was an update for 2007-1 and I just happened to get a 2006 disk... Ill have to pop out my nav disk to see what I have...

They probably update that area relatively frequently, but maybe not frequently enough. Navteq is notorious for lagging behind on their GPS maps -- some of the maps they supply Garmin are likewise 5, 10, even 15 years out of date. That's mostly a problem in rural areas, not major suburbs like Ashburn, though. Typically, a place like Ashburn gets updated every 6 months to 1 year.

If I were you, I'd see what map version you have (it's printed on the disk and on the box) and hold off getting the update until it's 2 years out of date. It usually takes about that long for the updates to be useful. Just IMO.

I checked it on my way in to work today. I have 2007.1. I might wait until 2008.1 or 2008.2 depending on a few things.

I might be looking to upgrade houses in the next year or two. Still in Ashburn, but larger place, garage... If a move looks like its going through, then I will probably wait to get the disk... Much of southern Ashburn just doesnt exist on the dvd, and there is so much there now...

My wife drive '04 MDX with NAVY. I check website - the are no new updates in my area for last 3 yr - But they try to sell me every year new disk for $180.
I bet there will be no difference between 2007.2 and 2008.1.
