coilovers

As title, has anyone fitted coilovers themselves? I'm thinking about doing it myself as the cost to have them fitted by a garage is eye watering IMO

I've fitted coilovers to a few cars. It's not really anymore difficult than standard suspension.

It's easy enough to diy as long as you've got the right tools for the job.

It might be not that hard but first time it seems Un doable even if I manage to arrange tools.

As long as you are methodical in removing bits etc then it's time consuming but straight forward.

I'm in Wolverhampton buddy.

I think the hardest bit can be undoing seized bolts and particularly getting the front struts out of the hubs. Its ok if you car is shiny and new like that one in the video, but when they are seized in place ...

I must admit in the past (on several VAG cars I have owned) I have always paid someone to do the fronts and done the rears myself. Cheaper smaller garages that aren't confused when you mention coilovers have charged me around £80 for the fronts. It shouldn't be taking a garage with lift & all the tools more than an hour per side, tops. Even at a non-backstreet outfit I don't think I have paid more than £120 for fronts.

With coilovers you dont even need to be compressing springs and removing top mounts, just old strut out, new coilover unit in, so it is actually easier/quicker than fitting lowering springs.

The rears have always been straightforward for me to do on the drive & don't look much different on the e9x than they did on my previous audis/vws.

Oh and £120 for an alignment? For reference, there's a very good place in Southampton that just does alignments, and charge £60 for all four corners on a proper machine.
