BMW Considering Among 4-6 Concepts Based on BMW-Toyota Joint Sports Car

Ford and Toyota just announced a break in their joint partnership for hybrid RWD vehicles (trucks). Hope this doesn't fail also.

Toyota and even more so, Honda can make great sports cars when:
1. They try to
2. It makes financial sense for them to put resources into making it instead of a people hauler

The agreement with BMW means they can make a great car without the fear that a price tag over 35k will be too high for their consumers. I'd love a BMW sports car with Toyota reliability.

I suspect a GTR / 911 price bracket competitor... But I'm happy to wait and see... and if it's not, just by a 911 or a GTR.

I think the difference between both will be that the BMW (M?) will be more luxury focused with turbo engine and the Toyota more hard-core with NA engine. New RC-F has NA V8 whereas new M4 has FI 6.

You sound like an automotive racist. If you were to be objective you would realize that as the maker of the Lexus LFA, Toyota has stronger sports car credentials than BMW. BMW has traditionally been a sports sedan manufacturer not a sports car manufacturer.

Eh I guess we're just quibbling with terms here, but I'd call the M5 a bonafide sports car. The LFA is a 'supercar.'

If you want to say Toyota has stronger supercar credentials than BMW, fine. But sports cars overall? BMW wins that one hands down with the M lineup.

Whatever the two companies decide to built, it better be unique or it just going to be waiste of money.

What does BMW needs from Toyota and what does Toyota need from BMW that neither companies can't accomplish on their own?

Does Toyota needs BMW's engine and BMW needs Toyota's styling? And what is the price point of this joint sport car?

The M5 is not a sportscar. It's too high and too heavy. It is a super sports sedan.

BMWs sportscar credentials include:
Z4
Z8
I8
840 and 850
M1

Toyota's Sportscar credentials include:
Lexus LFA
Scion FR-S
Supra
MR2
2000 GT

So neither company has any recent experience building cars that take on the 911, Corvette or GTR. The LFA though is probably better IP than the Z4 or i8.

Toyota Did make the LFA but it was done by their luxury car company called Lexus. but that's Lexus so still a difference. Toyota just has the supra that was amazing, there's a reason why Toyota wanted to link up with BMW because that means they needed a company that has better sports car credentials so I do not understand what you mean by saying Toyota has stronger sports car credentials.

by the way, yes they make the LFA but they also make the prius I guess that's puts them over the top with sports cars that make them better than BMW. prius beats all M cars oh yes

Yes and BMW makes the Mini First - 75hp, 0-60 in 13.2s. Makes a Prius look like a supercar in comparison.

Honestly bringing up the Prius has absolutely nothing to do with Toyota's ability to make sportscars. The fact that you think it does indicates how your brain works, or to be more precise how your brain doesn't work.

I wonder if we'll see an "i" roadster concept. Wouldn't suprise me, I just hope its not the main focus. An appearance of BMW's investments in less expensive carbon fiber would be more welcomed...
