There is a massive debate going in another forum and i wanted to know what you guys thought.....

which car is faster on track and on a straight...the dc5 or the clio 182?

Dc5 will be faster both in a straight line and around a track. Better power to weight ratio, better brakes and an LSD to help it.
Every clio i've sene on track has been slower than my DC2/DC5.

I can see how this debate could rage on though. vs threads are usually discouraged on forums because of this. Each person will be defend there own brand car.

Having owned both id say the dc5. My ek9 was also alot better on track also, i found the clio felt to heavy on the front end and would understeer alot. The brakes on the clio are very sloppy also.

I currently own both a Clio 182 Trophy and a DC5. Being the trophy the Clio is running sach dampers and they really do make it handle very well, with these and it being a much smaller car I find it much more nippy and easy to drive quickly. However in straight line the DC5 is notably quicker and with a good driver who can utilise the LSD it will be quicker round a track.

The Clio sports ive driven (172 cup and 182 cup) were both nippy, quick and great fun on A/B roads. I'd imagine the trophy would be a hoot on the twisty stuff.
I've not driven the new clio but id love a trophy/197 F1/200 as a run around.

Just NO

A Clio would have ANYTHING in the twisties though, remember that!

each to there own i guess but tbh im not one for french tin can's lol iv got a 106 1.5d non tubby for a winter hack manily as it returns 60 mpg and thus i can keep the belovid honda off the road and dry lol but i would say the dc5 is a more complete package and a 172/182 and evan 197 IMO do not evan come close.

I've owned both. Dc5 is quicker, in a straight line and around the corners, feels more planted but not quite as chuckable. Clio is hoot drive though. Also say that the dc5 is quicker than my mates stock 197.

dC5 will murder a clio round a circuit.
when we were doing britcar with TGM and Joe, one of the guys who used to come along had an ex clio cup car with all the trick bits he never beat either dc5 which both had std engines.

they are in a different league, clio is like a fiesta ST wheras the dc5 is more comparable to a focus RS or Megan R26r.

No it was Matt potter from think automotive . not that it matters Clio vs dc5 is like comparing apples to pears . People who think they are comparable are deluded imo.

Two years ago I drove a Clio cup car ( facelift type) when they were new to test. On slicks it was slower than my dc5 on r888s and road legal( on paper)

Awesome, now go start a dc5 thread.....

Ill just take myself down to Honda and buy a dc, oh wait....

Oh aye, that's right.....they were never officially brought to this country.

Oh, well....I'll just take whatever alternative Honda have...oh wait, that's right...there currently isn't one. Lol. Aye, sure just give me that wee hybrid, that will fack them all up!

I'm sure I could import a one cylinder quad turbo daihatsu from japan that would fcuk everything up, but that is irrelevant....as is all your trouser turf up there.

My Clio will still fist you on a twisty

I'd be happiest if we could accept the Clio's obvious dominance and just let this thread descend into insults whether verbally or picture based.

That would be an ideal outcome

I like his passion

And he might have a 335i in a few months.

The observation doesn't stand up to much and it's not a defending tactic. The fact is, i know mine and the 335i's have serious power retardation in the cold, emphasised when wet, it's almost laughable. The fact that it kept up with a light weight fwd rapid hot hatch is actually more impressive because i can guarantee the traction control cut a large proportion of the power.

This happens everyday to me. There is an uphill stretch of dual carriageway that in the dry i'm up it before you can blink. In the cold and wet even with a careful foot i'm only nudging past Mondeo diesels until i hit about 45/50 mph then it turns ballistic with more grip.
