330d to 123d?
Thinking of changing my 330d
My car is 07 330d e92 92k Reason for the change would it's time to start looking at buying a house. I do around 80miles a day. I average 36-38 mpg in the 330d Would I get much better in a 123d? Would I miss the 330d to much? I have thought about 320d etc but don't think I'd save a great deal, and would miss the power to much. Has any one had both? Many thanks |

From what people say the 123d is very short geared so I don't think u will gain a great deal if anything I'd of thought you should see more than that on a steady run.

I read at steady motorway speed the 2nd turbo kicks in around 2k rpm so not great for fuel.
Might help aswell.... http://www.babybmw.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=42653 |

I had a 2009 123d and the gearing is indeed short, revs high on the motorway.
Engine is noisy compared to the 3ltr diesel. And you need to be aware of the dreaded timing chain issue (depending on year) which is why I got rid of mine. I switched to a E92 335d and never looked back. Bigger, smoother ride, smoother gearbox (even though both are same year and auto) In terms of fuel, my 335d is better than what the 123d was doing. Hope that helps.

I think you're splitting hairs if you think that a difference in saving a few quid a week on fuel will help in buying a house?
I'd keep the coupe if I were you. I think the 1 series looks awful regardless of mpg. I'd sooner lose money and drive a coupe than have one of those. |

I test drove a 123d coupe before getting the 335d coupe. I found the 123d a little underwhelming and the interior quality didn't seem as good as the 3 series. Running costs-wise, I don't think you'll be saving anything, particularly after the cost of change.
