bluetooth and voice control?
Quick question....
If you order bluetooth does the standard voice control come as part of the package? Is the extended voice control is only available with the business/professional sat nav? Is there any way a car can be ordered without Voice control if bluetooth is specified? Thanks Bob

Quick answer:
No Dunno Yes Long answer: Voice comes for free if you add Bluetooth and ProNav. I am not sure what combinations of the three options are available outside of this. Perhaps having a play with the car configurator on the BMW website might shed some light on it. I would assume that you could have any combination of the three, but voice without a 'phone or nav might be a bit short of useful functions. Equally you could go for just the bluetooth.

Are you sure? I thought voice was a FREE option if you order bluetooth and NAV so it only comes free if someone spec's it? I seem to recall someone who didn't spec it, neither did their dealer, so they got bluetooth minus voice.
I suspect the "chrome surrounds on radio" option is much the same.

Thanks for the replies!! Could not get on the bmw site and needed an answer as a collegue was ordering a car and the $tealer was giving some ropey advice!!!
All sorted and for info the Voice Control is the basic bluetooth requirements with none of the added benefits of controlling other functions

Hmmmm... twiddling with the online configurator for the E91 (I'm biased now ) only lets you put voice with ProNav. Additionally the pricelist I have states that "Voice Control, extended" is only available with 609 (NavPro).

Does it shout back at you when you talk to it? My 335d is going to be my refuge from 'domestic bliss' i'd hate it if it shouted at me like the mrs does

I have pronav and voice control in my 330sport not really had much time to play with it but tried it today and it seemed to work well even understanding my accent.
you basically just press the steering wheel button and state the command you want...if you don't know the commands you just state "help" at each menu you can also state "options" and the system repeats back to you the available voice command options for that menu/area i.e entertainment / navigation / communication / climate although it works well not sure how much i will use it but we'll see |

If you press the voice control button on the wheel and say "Carlos Fandango"
The windows roll all the way down, the stereo volume increases to the max and the ipod changes to a playlist of hard trance......then the bluetooth interface dials the local Community Support Officer.

Not having to 'voice train' the system to dial your mobile phonebook contacts (assuming the phone is fully compatible & the phonebook can be downloaded by the car), Ability to just say something like 'Frequency 96.6' or 'Station Radio 1' to get the radio to tune into that station, Ability to enter new destinations into the Nav using just your voice, Ability to choose CD tracks on the main drive & multi-changer, etc etc etc The system is able to 'interprete' what you say, so it can let you dial contacts in your phonebook, without having to be trained & without having to be told your phonebook has been updated since the last time it was connected to the car's bluetooth interface. The 'basic' voice recognition system needs to be 'trained' to choose phone contacts & cannot do any of the other stuff that the 'extended' NavPRO system can do. All the best. Viv |
