E90 Just Ordered!
I'm new to the forums - I have been creepin' around though as I was deciding on which car to buy. I finally decided on the 2008 335xi which I placed an order for last night. (see my signature if you're interested in the details...)
After looking around on these posts, though, I learned that you can actually track the progress on your car using a production number. My question is how soon can I get this number? My dealer (located in southern Indiana so I'm not sure he knows the details) did not supply me with one. I assume there is some kind of lag period while the order is being processed before they can give me the production number. Is this correct? If so, how long do I have to wait? Thanks for the help. This will be my first BMW (went from Honda Prelude to Lincoln Aviator to BMW 335xi), but I am looking forward to getting to know the car and this forum!

Welcome and congratulations! Did they give you a production number/estimated production schedule yet?

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the order!
Your CA should have your production number within hours of the order - you should call or email and ask for it.

Update... my dealer gave me a production number. For the wrong car. He's working on finding the number. Seems a little ridiculous.

It might take a few days for your production # to correspond with your actual vehicle. The BMW Owner's Circle website take a little while to update itself, so in the meantime it may show that your # is for a different car.

Update: My car switched last night from Scheduled for Production to Awaiting transport. Any estimate regarding how long it should be before I get it? How long do the remaining stages take? I'm on Awaiting Transport now, then its En Route, then At Preparation Center before getting to my BMW dealership. Thanks for the help!

HennarotM3, you're quite helpful on these posts. I love it.
I checked the shipping company's schedule... they had a ship depart yesterday and one that departs Bremerhaven on the 22nd. Is there any way to check to be sure which boat my car is on? I tried to check out that tracking guide thread but I couldn't get it to do much. Also, how do I know where they'll unload it?

Spoke too soon. That tracking guide is helpful. The Ship Guide is the one I had trouble with.

Granto, Wallenius' website gives you the chance to search for your car by VIN.
http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTracking/cargoTrack.do It will tell you which ship you're on, and where they plan on discharging your car (either NY or SC). Once your car is off the ship, plan on a week or so before the car makes it to your dealer. This is the worst part -- waiting for arrival. It's all worth it when you drive off the lot. And the car you ordered sounds great!

Okay, a couple questions. What is the 1-800 number? And what does "CA" mean? And lastly, how can I get the car's VIN?

The VIN should be on the BMW Owner's Circle website after you log in and set up your account with your production number. The VIN may not appear for a few days (they're not assigned immediately).

If production is complete, the VIN should be available. Keep checking Owners Circle or call your CA or try asking the BMW NA phone representative! I was in your shoes same time last year and some of my friends were convinced that I had gone crazy. When I look back at those days, it was certainly worth it! |
