I have a carbon fibor hamann lip and after recently being rear-ended I had the opportunity to pick up a rear m-tech bumper/diffusor. I was thinking of wrapping the rear diffusor with the 3M DiNoc. The diffusor is already matte so I thought a semi-matte black CF wrap would look good (better than a gloss) and it balance out the front CF spoiler. I just can't justify spending $400+ for a real CF diffusor. To help illustrate pics below.

Should I do it?

Yea I was thinking the same thing, just curious if anyone else had gone this route and how it turned out or they had any problems with the wrap after install. Would prefer not to spend the $75 to have it wrapped if someone else had a bad experience.

dont' wrap the diffuser it will look tacky, if you want a cf diffuser buy one don't wrap exterior parts in cf it looks bad

It's not a very complicated shape so you could easily wrap it yourself. Thinking about the ruff dimensions a 4 x 2 sheet should be enough to cover the diffuser, but I would take measurements to make sure. I'd suggest a product such as Di-Noc Carbon Fiber by 3M. Our Audi R8s side blades wrapped in Di-Noc and it's holding up great! It still looks good as new. Below is quick photo of the blades on the R8.

I could not tell the difference between the 3m and real carbon when I looked at it, so i don't understand what the difference would be other than to say that is it a real carbon fiber diffusor vs wrapped. It's a very small area on the lower half of the bumper I doubt anyone could tell the difference unless I told them. I am considering doing it for the looks not weight savings. I think half the Taiwan made supposed carbon fiber parts bought on line are not real carbon fiber, shit I doubt my front spoiler is real carbon fiber, they are probably all wrapped and then sprayed with clear coat.

Thanks for the vote. I was mistaken, this is the 3m product and color I am considering going with 3m 1080 Black Carbon (the swatch on top, DiNoc underneath) which I guess is the latest product from 3m.

I have done a few for customers here in San Diego. It looks good. Just ensure the area around the exhaust exits are wraped carefully (due to heat etc)

Thanks forthe tip, I was wondering how it would hold up or the best way to do it. Should I wrap inside the cut out or just around the outside?

and the parts youre buying that are carbon are actually carbon, not just wrapped. but theyre not pure cf. the cheaper products are typically fiberglass with a layer of cf weave then clear/gelcoated

If you have a real CF front lip then no. I took the CF di-noc off my roof and changed it to gloss black solely because I retrofitted an msport front and am in the process of making a custom dry CF front lip.

I know this is the same concept as wrapping but it's alot more acceptable, IMO. It's a real carbon fiber sheet backed with adhesive and a clear top coat or some kind of lamination. Thier largest sheet is just under $200, which is about 3.5 x 6.5ft.

I don't know how this stuff adheres to curves but there aren't too many on the diffuser. Worst case you can just wrap the outward face and not the edges going into the car (hope that makes sense).

im actually planning on vinyling mine within the next 2 weeks. trying to find a glossy carbon fiber vinyl that looks as close as possible to real carbon fiber.

Good luck. I will post up pics next week. I wanted something a little less glossy, since I generally like the diffusor in more of matte finish, which is why I am going with the 3m 1080.

I just ordered the same 3M vinyl a few days ago to do mine. Shoud get it next week. I'm planning on removing the diffuser to get better edge coverage, hope it isn't a pain.

if the carbon fiber front lip is authentic carbon, then it would have the glossy resin finish... if you wrap the rear, you will have a bare look to it... but you can still throw resin over the project to get the matching appearance if you're satisfied.
