performance exhaust question

Hi, i'm having my local shop install PE for me. a few question:
1.) do i need to remove the battery of the car while replacing the exhaust?
2.) any DIY i can follow instructions from?

No you don't the battery has no effect on your exhaust. Diy is not needed the install is straight forwrad. If the shop needs a diy for this then they are probably in the wrong business.

In case it helps anyone, I've just fitted my PE and the dealer kindly printed off the 'official' BMW fitting instructions which I've attached.

One tip is not to bother to try to decouple the old exhaust by removing the rubber hangers - they are VERY tight. Instead, just unbolt the hanger brackets, then you can reconnect off the car.

Bear in mind these instructions relate to the European N53 engine (direct petrol injection) which has a much smaller central muffler than some markets and an additional emissions sensor midway along the exhaust. So the centre muffler delete pipework cannot be fitted. In other words it's a rear muffler only.

Overall impressions? Wow! As has been said before, the sound is just great and the rear tips look like an oversized sawn-off shotgun! I shall be driving everywhere with the windows open from now on!

If you've not seen it, this is my favourite PE video clip:

For those of you with the PE I realize it comes with the clamps but did any of you have it welded up instead?

Me

Didnt trust clamp for the pressure. Everything is welded; no leaks. Anyways it was the same price $40 with or without the clamps and they charged me $20 to fix my cyba tips at the correct lenght.

Have you actually seen the clamps? I was convinced that clamping a butted joint would be a certain recipe for leaks. But the clamp is so tight-fitting and heavy duty that I was proved wrong.

I have actually seen the clamps, I have 3 of them sitting in a box on the other side of the room with the PE. Its getting installed on saturday and just wondering what direction I want to go. I like the idea of having it all welded up and not having to worry about anything ever coming loose or corroding

The clamps are stainless steel, they won't corrode.

Suggest you measure the PE pipe diameter at the point just before the tips are added. That measurement should enable Cyba to tell you which of thier products will fit...
