Aluminum Splash guards?
so i had my engine splash guard got F&ed up today - ... split and broke apart while driving thru water ,..... go figure -
out of curiosity , does any one know if any of our vendors make the aluminum splash guards that would bolt up directly using the existing holes under the car? |

Yes. I'm talking about the one by the oil pan. Just thought I'd ask. Seems better to invest in something like that. Rather than going back to plastic. As they do get real brittle over time

Eh, the type of plastic used wouldn't get so brittle that water would break it. It sounds like the belly pan was broken before you hit the water and the water finally did it in. I've not seen a vendor offer one in aluminum. It would be really expensive to produce and not worth it for the small market he could sell it in. 90% of E90 owners don't even know there is a plastic belly pan on the car - LOL. Just get a new one. If it's just split, you can fix it with aluminum (duct) tape. I did that for one of mine for a while. I keep it as a spare. A stick has broken 2 of mine in the past 8 years.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I would worry about an aluminum one tearing up other stuff if it ever came loose or scraped against something.
I would rather lose or break a plastic splash guard than have it tear part of a bumper off or something worse.

granted you have a point , but was thinking there may be some benefits to it , and its not that expensive to produce, i see 370z and gs with this for less than $200 ... the oem one for our cars are 150 woudlnt the aluminum ones act in similar ways as a computer heat sink to help dissipate heat ? |

I've never heard of an aluminum one, but I wouldn't want an aluminum one anyway. I think the plastic splash guard would be more durable. I just replaced mine with the Bremmen part from ECS. It's identical to OEM, but only $80. http://www.ecstuning.com/News/BMW_E9...011_2012_2013/
