We (family) love NYC, walked past the Ritz Carlton last time we were there. The entrance features in quite a few Hollywood Films, but don't ask me which ones because I can't remember! You'll have a great time Stevie, and what a time to go with the exchange rate so favourable.

We took the children in November last year, Limo's to/from the airport, tours attractions, shopping (of course) it was fantastic. Given the opportunity Miswah and daughtwah would have spent a whole day in Macy's!! First time Miswah and I went was about a year to the day before 9/11. I have a great picture of her on the Ferry going across from Manhattan to Liberty Island with the Twin Towers in the background.

Pete how old are your kids???

My son is 2 and worry a little bit about him getting too tired.

PS the exchange rate hasnt helped the cost of the hotel but it will defo help the shopping

Stevie, my kids are a bit older. They were 10, 14 and 15 when we went last year. I made up my own package, in fact I used expedia, which I found very useful. Have you also checked out www.tripadvisor.co.uk you can get some good reviews on hotels and amentities. The Ritz Carlton comes out at 34/338 NYC hotels so it must be good! It may be too late but I found booking hotels direct sometimes works out a bit cheaper. It did for me when we went to California in the summer. I have unmetered calls to the US so rang around a few hotels, having seen their 'ratings' on Trip Advisor, to get the best rates/deals. The US look after their military people exceptionally well so I asked for the 'military rate', I know this doesn't help you but even the military rates are beaten by their local offers.

Steve, that looks absolutely fantastic. Those bedrooms are wonderful, you could spend hours in there.

I hope you are going to be an appropriate ambassador for the UK when you go overthere They probably won't understand a word you say.

I'm sure you and your family will have a lovely time.

You`ll have a blast Steve, when you go to Macys, Bloomingdales etc. don`t forget to take your passport to the concierge and you`ll escape the state sales tax. and if you end up in smaller shops don`t be afraid to haggle, New Yorkers love to do a deal, I got $700 off a Rolex in Tourneau on Maddison Ave.

We are going in March and will be staying at the New York Palace Hotel, it is our third time staying there and find it great form a location point if view. The first time we stayed there some famous Rapper JayZ or someone like that had a complete floor booked out and it was funny to see him and his minders and helpers get into their fleet of Escalades to go shopping for Bling.
I must try the haggle method and see if I can get a bit of discount on a new Omega watch......
