LedZep, just wanted to thank you for starting all these important threads about the new 6FL.

My baby is due to be born in a few weeks So I won't get my car till late July (hopefully) I plan to email my CA just prior to my car getting here to be sure the 6FL cable is there for me.

So at this point we don't know if the case is installed at the factory or just how it magically appears? Should I expect to have it on my car do you think? Or is this a hit or miss thing?

At this point it's a hit or miss thing. It seems to be related to the supply of the part. I guess when they have some they put them in and when they don't, they don't. Pretty stupid way to allocate equipment if you ask me. By July I would hope they would have it sorted out.

So, my CA called me and said the pouch they ordered for me (very nice of them) is in... and he was saying he didn't know how it attached... oh, looks like there are 3 screw holes....

So, I sent him the part number for the screws. You'd think their parts book would specify any other required parts.

I still wonder if velcro would work... then you could remove it when you wanted to. iPods aren't that heavy.

I got my pouch from the dealer today. He swiped some screws for it, but I decided to try using velcro first. The velcro seems to work fine so far... the only question will be whether the adhesive backing sticks to the leather okay over time.

The pouch is awesome - great place to tuck the iPod! He said it cost $63!! Glad I didn't have to pay for it!

Can you post pics? Wouldn't the velcro tape (adhesive part) get loose over the years and get less sticky due to heat? Maybe that is why they use screws?

I'm gonna be pissed if mine doesn't come with the case.

I'll get some photos of it pretty soon (there are others in this thread too). I figure the velcro is a crapshoot, because you may be right and it may not hold (especially the adhesive side). The side stuck to the leather will probably give way first. If that happens I'll use the screws.

Here's a photo of the freshly installed pouch. It's actually very nice, and real leather (smells like a new wallet). Attached with Velcro...

Cool pic, it sure does keep the iPod nice and secure, so you just flip open the flap and the iPod slides out in between the middle slit right? Do you leave your iPod in the car when it's parked out in the heat or do you take it with you.

If parked in the heat for an extended period I would take it with me. For a matter of several hours or less I just leave it.

Nice to have it out of the way, just remember not to place anything under it or else there might be a problem when you close the lid...

Yeah, I'll probably do some measuring to know the clearance, but I think anything flat-ish would be okay. I think the reason for this pouch is really so that you could also have the phone cradle.

So, after a few days I figured I'd check the iPod case and see how the velcro seems to be holding up. I carefully (at first) started to pull the pouch away from the inner lid... took some doing - the velcro is hold it on very well. Removed it and the velcro is adhering great to the lid and to the leather pouch! Who needs screws?

So just a tip - if you get this after factory - just use two pieces of 3" velcro!

Strange.
I have 335i w/ 6FL. April build, ED pickup on May7th. The pouch was installed. I assumed it was included with the 6FL option.
Good luck to those who didn't get the pouch.

Neither the dealers nor BMW NA seem to know the answer to the mystery. It has nothing to do with any other options, or packages, or colors, etc. It truly seems like if the guys in the factory feel like putting it in, it goes in - otherwise it doesn't.

I'm lucky and my dealer felt it should be there so he ordered me one free of charge.

pouch

Guys, as I have posted elsewhere, my dealer (Russel - Ellicott City, MD) had no idea about 6FL, even arguing with me that there was no "special" ipod adapter. After I proved it to them, only after they told me "I didn't have the option at all!!" (who sold me the car??), they located the correct adapter. No one ever noticed the pouch (even me) until I read about it here. I am sure my dealer had no idea it was there. But, it's the best option I have on the car. Absolutely love it!!:rocks:

So you just complained to your dealer Ledzep and he gave you the pouch?

My car was just redelivered and of course no pouch! Maybe I'll send an email to BMWNA and see what's up maybe they'll provide it to me.

Actually, I didn't even complain. I asked my CA if he knew why some got it and some didn't and sent him a photo of what it looked like. He also had no idea why some came with it and some didn't, but he felt that I should have it so they ordered one for me and didn't charge for it.

BMWNA was as useless on this as they are on anything else. They couldn't answer my question, said they'd follow up.. they never did.

I think the price for it is $62, which is fairly steep - but it is very nice to have. If I had to, I'd pay for it.

Sorry to post about my 1er in your E90 forums (I've not voted on this poll) but just thought I say that I got the iPod case fitted with my 118d from the factory. Apparently the dealer told me it's part of the Storage Pack (which in turn is part of the Comfort Pack) with the 1 Series.

Just in case any other prospective 1 series owners stumbles this way looking for info on the 6FL.

Oh, and it looked just like LEDZEP's photo.

Hey Reize... that's cool to know. I love a Birmingham accent. Have to say though that a Manchester accent is a tad nicer... just IMO.

Cheers LEDZEP.

Obviously your Avatar knows a thing or two about a Birmingham accent.

Just added the "IV" album to my iPod in your honour!
