Hey OP, silly question I imagine that this is a great work around for someone that doesn't have bluetooth correct? Or if I may clarify what kind of entertainment setup did you have before this that led you down this path?

My car has the USB and AUX (6FL) in the armrest, Bluetooth for calls only (via BMW Assist) and the standard head unit with logic 7...I'm pretty sure BMW didn't introduce Bluetooth streaming (A2DP) until '09 and later cars. For me, I chose AirPlay because it's a lossless wireless solution and because I primarily use Apple devices. AirPlay sounds awesome and is the best integrated into iOS. Bluetooth streaming undergoes a lot of compression with drastically reduces sound quality, which is amplified by the relatively good logic 7 system. I'm not too sure on which is better in terms of power consumption, but I haven't noticed any ill effects from either. I imagine Bluetooth would use more power but I'm not sure.

I just received my order from Amazon, I am doing the install this afternoon. The airplay box is TINY.

This is a great fix if you don't have the new nav CIC or bluetooth...

Thanks again for the write up!

A quick update, it took 5 minutes to install and is working as it should. This is just AWESOME! Now I can get rid of all the wires running from my iPhone to the AUX. This was a GREAT fix and find.

This is the reason why I appreciate e90post! Thanks.

Does this setup allows for the iPod/iPhone to be controlled by the steering wheel buttons? I like to be able to move to the next song or re-play the last without picking up the phone

Awesome DIY, but would I be able to connect to it from my iPod touch? My wife has an iPhone 5 so this is great for her but I have a Windows Phone and play music thru the AUX with my iPod

Do you have to connect it to the network created by it? Or Can this device connect another network and get streaming from a source in the network?

Here is my situation, I have a wifi only tablet which I am using for navigation, music etc in my car but I get the wifi from my phone tethering. I am sure my tablet can not connect to two wifi networks simultaneously so I need this device to connect to a network created by my phone so that tablet can wifi data..

I just read their documentation, it looks like this device can connect to any wireless network and rooted Android devices with airplay apps can air play on to it. I should be getting mine in few days, I'll give you an update later next week.

Threw mine in the car during lunch. Works great. Super easy install and config. I am eager to try the upgraded DAC at some point.

how is the quality of the sound?

I have something similar setup using a bluetooth device, and the bass is markedly weaker. I rarely use it for that reason alone.

So ideally, you could improve the signal with the X-Fi Go! and then have it AirPlay from the box. Hmmm...
yep, that's it. you plug it in to the box, and plug the aux cable into the creative xfi

Just wanted to say thanks for the tips and DIY OP! Great product that I didn't know existed. Nice bang-for-your-buck upgrade if you don't like having an aux cable lying around cluttering up your interior.

I paired this with the Kenu Airframe mount - recommended by another member here - and could not be happier!

So far so good with standalone mode. I'll try wireless client mode once I root my GS4.
