LCI Inner Tail Lights Bulb To LED?

Has anyone swapped the inner brake light bulb on the LCI tail lights to an LED? I assume it would be easy to code out the error using NCS, but I wasn't sure if anyone has done it. I searched and came up with nothing.

inner as in the bulb of the set of two that turn on while braking, closer to the center of the car? or the rear fogs?

E90PAT, the e92 LCI inner (trunk section) bulb is definitely is not LED. It has an H21w bulb that could easily be replaced with an LED. I am not sure what you mean by rear fog, but it is the only bulb in the trunk braking section (not bars).

E93 sports wagon lci rear: very similar bulb configuration to e90 lci rear (only quick pic i can find with brakes applied)

E90's have a bulb right behind the running bar lights on the trunk portion. Right under the clear reverse bulb housing.

E92 lci rear:

E92's are easier to see, right on top of the running bar lights on the trunk portion.

Those bulbs are rear fog lamps. They do not normally turn on while braking. They can only be activated by modifying the light switch, through coding to work with your brakes, or when ABS kicks in.

Is this what youre referring to? If so then i can offer what i have found out on my mini quest to change those. I planned to switch them to LED in hopes to make them brighter, but the available options in market werent any brighter than the oem incandecent bulbs. I tried three different ones and just decided to keep oem bulb. I did recently up the voltage through nettodata coding about 1.5 volts to a final 14 and theyr'e pretty bright. I wouldnt keep them on too long how ever, just to deter tailgaters.

You have the bulb I am referring to! So it is totally inactive on US coded cars unless you code with NCSExpert?

That's your rear fog bulb. Look up rear fog switch DIY to turn it on.

Correct, they have to be physically modified in your light switch to activate at your discretion. This process requires no coding.

If you want those to work along with your brakes, that has to be coded.

I would love to see how that would look with an LED.

Well, if you want brighter; you might have to invest more research time than i did to find a decent pair. Or even make one if your tech savvy enough.

If you just want that snappiness of turning on, then go for it.

I cannot supply pictures however, if thats what you're asking.

I have also looked heavily in to a brighter rear fog, and unfortunately, a "brighter" solution is also likely going to be a custom built one.

For the moment, my E90 isn't "my" car, it's more the car I am driving. If it becomes my car, I will definitely look in to building a brighter solution. The trick will be installation and cross-compatibility between vehicles...

Good sir, is the reason why you want a brighter rear bulb because you plan on going in reverse with a full 654 RWHP Fantastic car by the way.

Garage List
The rear fogs will come on automatically under heavy braking (Adaptive Brake Lamps).

are the inner tail lights powered by a bulb on the e90 lci sedan? my left inner light has just stopped working so is it a simple bulb switch or a whole led light replacement?

Thanks..
