Overall, not convinced the cars are as good as they could/should be for the price tags.

Shame but I think BMW are currently gunning for profit and have 'downgraded' the 3 Series (not M3) in some respects, when they DO have the ability/skill to produce cracking cars.

I know the 6 Series is more money but they appear to be beautifully built from what I've seen.
+1
Build quality is appalling for a premium brand!

Love my car but there are a few things that do my head in:

- Mirrors don't fold from the fob (mine's pre-LCI but it still doesn't do it)
- Annoying bluetooth buttons on the wheel when I have Parrot bluetooth not factory fitted
- Headlight washers always skooshing when you spray the windscreen
- Non-standard rear fold seats
- Ridiculously inflated BMW economy figures, even when driving like an old man.

can relate to some of this, comng froma Honda it was a Vast improvment/step up into a BMW for me.

Paint quality is poor (first thing I noticed)
Some rattles (which I didnt expect)
Radio - HI FI is not good at all
I have an engine/idle issue that the dealers dont believe even though there is threads on here with people having the same issue.

Car not totally what I expected but TBH. But I still really like for some reason and would buy another.

RFT's, uneven wear particularly the inside.
Poor paint finish (orange peel).
Pathetic sounds system with little room for upgrade due to tiny speaker widths and depths.
Unreliable, my car has been in the garage multiple times.
Poor handling for a coupe although mine is the SE, m sport may be better.
Exhaust tips corrode.

Why dont you get a Connects2 cable and then you can use your steering wheel buttons to control the Parrot (depending on version)?

Been in for two software updates.

Turned it on one day running on 5 cylinders.

Engine wouldn't start properly, something to do with injectors.

Didn't idle properly dropping down to 300rpm etc.

A front brace needed to be replaced aswell.

So multiple things over 3 years.

Windscreen and stone chips.
RFT and Ride quality. Could be just the RFT though.
Attracting other vehicles. (Even when you park in a clear car park to avoid door dents. You come back to find the rest of the car park clear, execpt all the spaces around your vehicle)
Boot attracting dirt - boot badge quality. Changed when I bought car already starting to notice fading around the edge, like dirt and water underneath the black ring.

Two things that bug me:

(1) On the USB interface using ipod to play my music, I have to scroll through every single artist/album to reach a particular one. I can't just scroll through the alphabet like I do on my phonebook to get to Z quickly. The poor Zutons never get played (although I'm sure a lot of people will say that isn't such a bad thing!)

(2) On my folding mirrors, a lot of the time when I get out of the car or into the car and fan them out, the actual mirror is pointing in a completely random direction! If someone has a guaranteed fix for this that would be amazing!

- The thing with the keyfob / boot opening annoys me too from time to time.

- RFTs are rubbish, was the first thing I replaced.

- No LSD available as an option.

- Paint quality is not ideal, you get stone chips very easily.

- My iPod makes chirping noises in the background frequently when changing tracks.

But the main gripe:

It makes me spend way too much money!!!

most of these wouldnt bother me with the exception of RFTs and the paint quality but i havent seen / felt either yet.

Driving an older car makes you apreciate the newer ones, in the last 3 months iv had to:
replace downpipe [£250 as vw dont make / stock them anymore
take it on the motorway a lot to fix my car shake in 5th gear due to lack of use
replace water pump, cam belt, other belts
fix and get used to a million rattles
and get used to windows not going up at same time, car sometimes not starting in the heat, power steering screeching when on full lock, occational dodgy gear changes.. List goes on, I cant wait to get the bmw and sell this old beast!!

Well I've just spent £420 on servicing and now had the car a year.

Annoyances are:

RFT tyres are stupid - so I replaced them.
Inner tyre wear (rear) is definitely OTT even if the car is pokey.
Wiper stalk badly designed (too easy to squirt the headlight washers, can't keep rear wiper on and squirt windscreen, hard to know when rear wiper is in "on" position)
Total lack of any tyre kit - no jack, no wheel wrench, nothing. Bit silly.
No xenons as standard - sub £20k car come with them, why not a near £40k one?!

Other than that I utterly love the car.

Bits others have mentioned:

I find the stereo okay - beginning to wonder if it's upgraded somehow? Had some slightly chavvy people I know (who love their "ICE") check it out when I used it as the "campsite hifi" at a stag do and all were impressed. Mid range needs work but bass is fine and high end seems quite detailed.

The paint - never had such a deep sheen on my car BUT it does seem to scratch even if a fly looks at it. The finish is first class on mine.

The leather - Dakota Terra on mine and wearing very well. I do treat it quite often.

Well a lot's been covered so my addition is the air-conditioning vent to the far right of the dash behind the steering wheel, fails to let out enough air and instead gets trapped behind the steering wheel and cools that instead of my face (notice the cool patch on the steering wheel when you have the AC running).

Love my car though.

Some odd complaints in these posts.

My fob unlocks the boot without unlocking the car.

If I leave the fob in the boot in an otherwise locked car, then shut the boot lid, the car beeps and promptly unlocks the boot.

If you have tweeters in the mirror triangles then your car does not have the standard sound system.

The mirrors haven't folded with the fob since, IIRC, 2006 - nothing to do with the LCI version.

BMW should be shot for forcing run-flats on us. The new Bird provided suspension proves you can keep the handling and road holding and still get a decent ride.

The young lady who speaks on the satnav and in response to spoken commands should be able to do a little more. I was thinking for instance that I should be able to chuck a couple of shirts on the back seat and have them freshly ironed when I return to my car.

RFT's for sure.
Placement of handbrake takes up room. get with the program, mount it in footwell or put an electromagnetic one.
Not enough storage space.
iPod integration should be standard....
no LSD, plain retarded...

hmm, i'll think of something else...
