Another insurance fiasco
Not happy at all.
Regarding my Brother and his recently purchased Mini Cooper. Right, he on the phone told them he was a student etc and will be working soon (Graduating etc) I happen to see his policy laying about and had look and saw it said ''Social Only'' i approached me ol' gel and said that he aint covered to go to work. She was p[issed off to the hilt about it and she heard the phonecall my brother made to them. . They are all lying, theiving buncha CANTS. He potentially would have driven around uninsured.

WTF?
So he rung them up, discussed an insurance policy and then they put him down as a "social only" driver? What is a social only driver I drive my car for "social" reasons as opposed to it being a business car? |

I see. Your bro hasn't graduated yet until June time. Insurance might have cocked it up by thinking he has no work to travel to yet so put him under social perhaps...either way shouldn't be too hard to sort it out as nothing untoward has happened.

They could have rejected a claim, knowing full well they mis-sold a policy. Cheeky Cants. He wouldnt have magically thought to ring them to let them know he had a job eh sunny.

Carl, to be fair, when you get your insurance schedule and certificate in the post, it ALWAYS says to read carefully and let them know immediately if there are any errors or omissions etc. Has your bro just missed it etc?
No harm one so long as it is amended now before he starts work

Kick up a fuss and ask to deal with a senior manager.
I'm having problems with travel insurance so the bastards are all the same I think. Had to come back from Oz end of November, a week early due to the death of my father in law and finally got some money back on Saturday last. They've taken 2 lots of excess and refused to refund the week car hire we lost and had paid for. Said covers travel and accommodation only. I needed the car to drive 100miles from airport to apartment. WTF is that if not travel? Currently in heated discussion with top brass but makes my blood boil. Policies aren't worth the paper they're written on....

I imagine the conversation went along the lines of "Do you use the car to travel to work?"
"No, I'm a student" "OK, I'll put you down as social only which will save you some money. Make sure you phone us up if and when you start work." "OK"

But it used to be the case that travelling to work is not 'work'. Using the car for work is a different thing - you can claim mileage when using it for work purposes which in this case would not be covered, but the travel to work is different

you'll require it being changed to social domestic pleasure & commuting... shouldn't be any difference in cost
unless he's going to use it for multiple places of work (i.e travelling sales etc) in which case stick business use on... the amount of times i've had insurance documents come through and they've missed off my business usage or had something down wrong... most recent one was they transferred my policy to my new car but left my breakdown policy under the old cars details... it's annoying but you pretty much have to double check everything they give you |

Insurance is a contract of full disclosure, if your circumstances change ie from student to employed you have to ring them up and tell them.
This is clearly written on all policies that if there are any changes you must inform the insurance company. it is always down to the insured to check that the cover is correct for use. |
