We have to find out what oil is used in the 1M coupé, it is an M car and has an N54 engine.

If it uses 10-60 castrol, then we can use it on our N54

who is willing to ask to the dealer or look in the 1M manual???????

Dunno about the 1M but I believe BMW recommends 5W30 for the X5M/X6M which is a 4.4l V8 twin turbo (BMW S63 engine), unless my memory is off.

I just think tolerances are to tight for 10w 60 in the long run i think 5w 40 is the way to go.

Wink

BMW had just confirmed now in Europe that oil for serie 1 ///M so N54 (based), is that same oil that M3 E92 and other ///M series...

so CASTROL 10W60

an friend told this !

for oil , i had confirmation that is 10W60 TWS(edge) for ///M which was used for serie 1 M, and revision mandatory after the first 2000 kilometers, with an oil service...like all ///M series....

he has got the paper official BMW that mentioned it !!

You're forgetting that BMW recommends 5W30 for the X5M/X6M.

But let me guess, you can't get a copy of this official BMW paper for us to see, right?

So far this is the closest we get to an answer: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...88#post9740388

And the answer is: 5W30 for the new 1M (just like recommendation for the FI engine in the X5M and X6M).

The problem I have is the motive BMW has for recommending 5w-30?
It will give better mpg. It is safer during cold starts.

Weighing the odds of failure. I am sure it is more cost effective to them to have us run 5w-30 to avoid cold failures and wear versus 10w-60 is avoid extreme heat failures.

But for modded cars running 16 psi...? BMW is not basing their recommendation on that. So what is better for modded cars?

I run 15W50 in my E36 M3. I'm sure the N54 would be fine with a higher weight oil since it runs so damn hot... I wouldn't even worry about it. For people who drive it as a daily I wouldn't recommend anything that heavy though... or those in cold climates obviously.

It's been half a year now, kiteboy. I knew we'd never actually see that paper. Anyways... doesn't matter now. It's now well-established that BMW officially recommends 5W30 in the new 1M (just as I've been saying since this thread took off). Loads more info on 1addicts to confirm it. Start here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...2#post10550062

As I've said before, it shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone that BMW would recommend 5W30 for the 1M as they do the same for the X5M/X6M (4.4l V8 twin turbo, S63 engine).

What needs to be done is never under any circumstance bump an oil thread on a BMW forum. I have followed these oil threads for years on many different BMW platforms and forums. You will never get straight answer and everyone who posts is right about everything all the time. Just ask them.

You should ignore everything in this thread, the amount of mouth-breathing is ridiculous.

If you're running a thin 5w-30 you could switch up to a 0w-40 or 5w-40. Whether you stay within LL-01 specs is up to you.

Try some motul. Others have used rotella. I've never seen anyone since 2007 use 10w60 on this car.

If you are going up in oil weight to reduce noise and it's not working you have bigger problems, sorry.

Going up in oil weight is a band aid to a bigger problem.

This car should do just fine on a proper 30W.
