dealer just did mine
but, I had aftermarket warranty that picked up water pump and labor. Would not pick up thermostat because IT did not fail. The dealer would have charged $1,200.

Funny. Called Tischer just to gauge how much it would be.
$580 for thermostat replacement $1195 for water pump replacement So I ask the SA how much of that is parts and he said about $900. So I said to him that I could get the parts from getBMWParts.com for $560 as they have a t stat/water pump replacement kit selling for that much. So why are you charging so much for parts? He then proceeded to tell me that he was going by 'book' pricing. SA said that if I brought the parts there from their online store they would install and warranty them. Independent shop I am using is still cheaper( labor rate). BTW, Russel and Annapolis BMW were in the same ballpark as Tischer with 'book' pricing for this work. |

Yuppers, that's what Tisher (BMW Silver Spring) does. I had them quote me for an OEM alarm install awhile back and they gave me the "book" price for the parts when you can clearly order it about 20-30% cheaper from the website and pick it up at the dealership. And that's exactly what I did.
I think they're trying to cater to two different customer base. Those that are not as price sensitive get the "book" price from the dealership and those who are are a little bit more price sensitive to go through the website. |

Just a heads up.... if you are due for an carbon cleaning, you should try to do it at the same time. My SA (Beaver Ho) at Rockville BMW was replacing my waterpump and t-stat under warranty and told me if I got the carbon cleaning done at the same time they would only charge half the labor since they were already going to be all up in it. Got the carbon cleaning done for $400

Just had my WP/Tstat go yesterday.... dealer quoted me $1300. I just purchased the parts seperatly and having a friend put it in for $125 and a case of beers. Funny thing is I was just about to trade my car in for a F10 550i (SOL)
