Basicly I'd just like to havea discussion on people who have tried this and their thoughts. I left mine off the other day and the sounds of the turbos almost doubled. I can hear them spool and even the diverter valves when I let off sound a lot better. Also, with the carbon filter removed I can hear the turbos through my air vent. Kinda cool in my opinion.

However, I know this can become an issue when it rains. I checked it out at a car wash with the shroud and carbon filter removed and it seemed that no water got into the little openings for the ventilation system.

Has anyone else ever tried this? thoughts? pros vs cons?

I've removed the sound deadening foam from under the hood, some people remove the additional foam on the underside of the plastic engine cover, but otherwise I'd recommend leaving that cover on.

While it's great & all that you can hear everything more, you'll be kicking yourself when a rock/stick/dirt gets works its way into the engine + screws something up

Although a bit unclear, I suspect he's talking about the cover that protects the coils/plugs and the plastic cowl that includes the cabin filter.

Anyway, the general opinion is that you can do it but you will run the risk of getting additional debris in areas you don't want to. My tech does it on the track all the time. I don't mind doing it on the track, either, but personally wouldn't do it on the streets. That's just my personal opinion, others have done it with little to no ill-effect.

He is probably talking about the panel by the windshield. Keeping it off will allow debrit to get into the evaporator core fins.

Sorry guys I was a bit unclear. I'm talking about the plastic shroud at the rear of the engine, on top of it, closest to the windshield. The same thing you remove to install jb4 or to get your engine 'pretty panel' off.

I'm looking for a good reason to put it back on. As far as I've seen from looking at it the only things put in harms way is the two cable bundles that are routed in front of it (that are now laying on the engine cover) and the openings for the air ventilation system are exposed. I could see debris getting into there, but that seems like a relatively small price to pay. Is the evaporator core down in there? I did not look that deep into it. That could be a pretty big downside

It is what sets OVER part #7. The part in this picture is what is exposed when the 'shroud' in question is removed.
