COBB Stg 2 + FMIC - oil temps

running stg1 aggressive and loving it. with the addition of a throttle booster its just sick, please note my mods in my signature. ANYWAY my problem is i dont want to buy DPs in order to run stg2 if doing so is going to push my oil temps too high. im not dropping $1000 without install on an oil cooler im just not that serious the car is fast as is. i pretty much have the car as far as i want to take it but i would spend $800 on dps to run stg2 when driving hard i think its worth it, but to add almost another $1500 with an oil cooler to me is not.

so the question is, will running stg 2 for a few hours (all i need it for) going to push my oil temps over the edge given the other mods i have.

side note - what does e85 50/50 do for your car? doe sit seriously increase power?

Oil temp's depend on how hard you push your car. I can go WOT all day, stock, and have higher temps than cruising with my JB4 on. Pushing higher boost does increase the temps, but again it depends on how hard you are pushing your car. Also, you should be running Stage 1+ maps.

From what I understand you don't have a stock oil cooler. Living in Connecticut, I would go for the downpipes. It'll be better for your turbos and reduce EGT's. Gust don't push your car that hard and you will be fine, just try to keep it below 250.

Also, with COBB's OTA maps, you can't run E85 to it's full potential, as far as I know.

Garage List
2010 BMW 335i  [8.00]
1. You can run stage 1+ instead of stage 2 since you have an intercooler
2. If your car is 2007, then yes no oil cooler, get one, you will be happy.
3. 50/50 E85 will help your cooling. But will gain nothing if you just run cobb maps. You have to tune it to get more power.

Hope this will help

You say you need it just for a few hours. Are you talking about doing a HPDE? Or street use? Or going to the drag strip?

FYI... I live in the Hartford area and there is only 1 gas station in the state that sells E85 and its all the way down in Watertown so at least for the time being that not really a viable option here.

I've never seen my oil temps go north of 250 ever. I guess I don't beat on my car hard enough

It's got the factory oil cooler.

Just a few hours I take the car out in some areas near Torrington CT ( rt. 4) when I want to open it up and go nuts. The stg 2 is only for days when I want to do that, so I'd put the map on, go nuts, take it off, and drive home.

I've never crossed 230 even going sideways all day BUT I wasn't running stage 2 either so that's why I was asking.

Yes mines an early model build in July actually. It sucks because after September they changed the rear end (what most LSDs are made to fit with). Did they build early models with stock oil coolers?

You'll have no issues running stage 2+ FMIC on the street. As long as you're not tracking the car you really don't have much to worry about. If you see the temps start to head north of 250F then just back off and do some "cool down" driving.

BTW, running e85 isn't going to help with oil temps.
