MP3 Song/track display

I took some MP3 songs and wrote a normal Data CD of about 700MB, with the MP3 songs inside folders on the CDROM. When playing this CDROM in my E90 on RANDOM mode, I press the LIST button. It then shows the full name of the track or song currently playing. However, when I use the steering wheel controls UP or DOWN to change the MP3 track (which it then selects from any fodler), the display does not change to this new track name and it basically does not reflect the song title either. Has anybody else seen this small bug in the E90 where the display does not keep up with the actual MP3/WMA music playing ?

After you press the "list" button, press the "title" button. The name of the song and artist will be displayed, and it will update when the song changes.
This assumes that your mp3 ID4 tags are version 1.x. Version 2.x tags will not work.

version 2 won't work at all or just with the steering wheel? all modern "ripping" software uses version 2 by default, why would BMW make it incompatible, that's just dumb!

I don’t think it is a bug, unfortunately that just the way it works. You have to push the current button to see the current song, or as mentioned above, push list then title.

MP3 display not updating

The reason I say it is a bug is this : isn't the steering wheel buttons supposed to help the driver to focus on the driving ? In this case, fiddling with LIST and other audio buttons is distracting and defeats the whole purpose of this audio display. I think it is a bug as the display should AUTO UPDATE or AUTO refresh itself with the songs/tracks etc. as many other cars do.

I guess I misunderstood your question. When you said bug, I thought you meant something unique to your car. I don’t like the setup either. I was just trying to point out that it was like that on all cars.

Once you press list and title, the display does automatically change with each song.

I also only recently discovered that when you are in the list mode, you can view the hierarchical directory of your songs by using the right button on the radio. You can move between albums by turning and pressing the button.

I have logged this issue or bug with the BMW Factory. Will inform once I have an outcome.

MP3 tracks

My 325 works. When changing MP3 track with the up and down button on steering wheel, the track name updates on the console display. It seems cars sourced from germany works, but those from Rosslyn SA does not. Ask Rosslyn if they can upgrade your software or fix the problem.
