Independent Service - Cheshire/Manchester
Just had my car serviced today at Darren Wood BMW Specialists in Bredbury near Stockport and wanted to post a testimonial.
For an oil service I was quoted £90 +vat as opposed to £180 +vat from a dealer after haggling from an initial position of £220+vat. Darren & Mike not only performed the service but completely valeted the car, yes I mean valeted as opposed to washed, they checked all fluid levels, tyre pressures, cleaned the engine bay and reported on a warranty issue. Both are BMW trained techs and the service is second to none. Having owned BMWs since 1991 I have always taken my cars to franchised dealerships until today, Quite frankly I doubt whether I will ever go anywhere else from now on (apart from warranty) contact details as follows: - DARREN WOOD, BMW SPECIALISTS Unit 3 Bredbury court ind. estate, Ashton Road, Stockport SK6 2QB 07767 394316 / 07796 895836

How long did they take, was it while you wait? Just down the road from me so very tempting....
What about residuals though - would this adversly impact them?

car is 3 years old and quite frankly I can't imagine it mattering to anyone whether it was serviced by a franchised dealer or these guys, the book gets stamped the smae parts are used and it comes with a more thorough service sheet than a dealer gives you. In fact I would personally much prefer to see it had been looked after by these guys.

Re residual, maybe if you are selling in warranty to: a) a dealer / trader who will try anything to get the price down b) private buyer who knows nowt about car care Mines only 1 year old, but i'll be keeping it for 4 or 5 years, and I know it'll be worth MORE to a 335i buyer with a complete, non dealer specialist service history with 8k oil changes throughout and all the receipts. As the non dealer service is so cheap, its easy to justify the lavish extra oil changes....all in the mind, but the engine thanks me for it! And with extra oil changes, I now don't need over priced long-life oil, so I can buy much better performing, top of the range racing synthetic for £40/5 litres.....winner all round. Thanks chaps....
The 5er is proving to be just so darn good, we are thinkiing of keeping it for a couple more years (it will be 3 years old in Dec) so this looks like a good option and as you say, a decent buyer should see this as a positive. Even for the 3, this looks tempting (shame I just paid £££ for the 2 year brake/oil from Blue bell) . The only thing Blue Bell has going for it is convient location

Thanks for the top-tip Binary. I've been keeping an eye out since Speed Religion closed for another top quality independent as that's probably where the X3 will end up going.
Where abouts do you live TMP is Blue Bell is your local dealer. This is where I use. I'm right in the middle of David Holmes and Blue Bell but the later is nearer work so overall more convenient. I live in Bramhall & work in Wilmslow...

They also prepare several CSL cup cars for various people. An un-named senior executive at BMW UK takes his cars to Darren Wood as he rates him as one of the best techs in the country..... |

Praise indeed but not a great shout of confidence in the resources he has at hand.

Exactly, when someone senior at BMW doesn't want to take their own BMW to a BMW dealers for service, when he could probably have it done there for free, that says a whole lot of bad stuff about dealer servce IMO....
