just installed m3 rear sway bar and m3 subframe bushings
hello. i just wanted to let you guys know in case anyone was thinking about upgrading suspension parts on our 335xi's. i already have an upgraded spring shock combo and this addition really is the icing on the cake. the upgrade makes the car feel a lot more planted on the highway and around corners it has significantly reduced body role. i highly recommend you guys do the upgrade. you can comment on the thread if you have any questions or anything.

It is a massive change when going to the m3 parts. I have had the full set of rear parts (minus lower camber links) on my xi for about 2 years/40k miles now, and it is much more planted and stable, especially when on the gas over uneven pavement.

I did the same 2 weeks ago,
I'm on KW V3's. My subframe bushings where completely shot, the car was undriveable, lots of torque steer, even without applying torque. Feels like a new car now, much better turn in on throttle. But I've still a bit of a mushy feeling on throttle, especially from a start, it feels like the whole tranny bounces a few times. Changing the subframe bushings already improved this, but I think the diff bushings are sloppy from design too and get mushy together with the subframe bushings. I've ordered Urethane Powerflex Diff bushings and hope they will fix this. Has somebody already changed the tranny bushing? Or ugraded? Perhaps filling it up with liquid urethane? Hopefully it's not the motormounts wich got tired. |

yes. the springs and shocks being upgraded really help reduce body roll a lot but adding the sway bar really really reduces body roll. driving straight on the highway the car feels more planted and going around corners it feels a lot more planted. for example, before going around a bend at 40mph the car feels glued to the road but take the same turn at 70mph and you still feel like you have control of the car but your a little more on edge. adding the rear sway bar makes it feel like when going around that bend at 70mph the car feels like it would if you were going 40mph. thats just an example but thats what it feels like.

i have to agree with that, also on bumps while cornering. near my house there is a road and there is a pretty sharp turn and halfway through the turn there is a bump in the road, before making that turn it would feel like the rear wheels would lift up and the car would not feel as stable, but now when i go over that bump the car just feels hunkered down on the road and very stable

the reason for not doing the front sway bar is because the XI is very understeer prone and having the front sway bar would increase the understeer even more. the rear sway bar helps reduce body roll but it also helps reduce the understeer tendency a bit.

parts all together were around 500ish and so was the install. the install is expensive because they have to lower the entire rear subframe to change the sway bar. but the subframe bushings are right there to so if you get the sway bar changed you might as well get the subframe bushings as well. he gave me my old sway bar back and it looks pretty dinky compared to the new m3 one.

Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade. I've been on H&R Sports with Bilstein Sports for about 15k miles and my front sway bar end links are failing...car only has 35k miles on it. All lowered xi's will probably run into the same issue. Trying to figure out the length of my front end links so I can order some adjustable ones.
