Just out of interest Xenon - what fuel do you use? ie supermarket fuel? Shell? and what octane? 95, 97 or 99?

Mine performs like a different car when it has a full tank of Shell VPower

Your solicitor

It makes me so angry when people have spent all this money on what's supposed to be a high class car renouned for quality & reliability!!!

It is BMW CS in Hook.

I did remind them I have spent over 100k with BMW since 2002, the guy was really sorry but the service dept. at the dealer had told him it was a characteristic, so end of story.

I have spoken to the dealer today and am awaiting a reply tomorrow.

I have really lost faith with the brand now, will probably just get out of the car and buy something else.

....and who could blame you...

Couldn't agree more with Colsen...

Just for info, a couple of extracts from my own exchanges, which might help....

Dealer:
Quote:
My understanding of the current position is that the flutter you are experiencing on idle is a characteristic of the engine and the efficient dynamic functions, as such would not be seen as a manufacturing defect.

It would seem that the more significant issues you have experienced have therefore been corrected following the work we have carried out under BMW’s instructions.

I appreciate this may not be the ultimate solution you were expecting.....
Me:
Quote:
Concerning the “flutter” as you call it……are BMW really saying that its acceptable for a £32k car to almost stall, to the point where a shake is felt through the vehicle by driver and passengers alike…???? Really??? Given that this has been the position since I first reported my faults, and there have been endless attempts to try to fix it, why has it suddenly become “a characteristic” ??

Secondly you mention “the more significant issues” – I take it you mean the one occasion that the vehicle suddenly lost power? This happened completely without warning, and I have absolutely no confidence that it will not happen again, since nothing else has changed….the vehicle is behaving (or misbehaving) in exactly the same fashion as it did prior to that…

As far as I am concerned the other issues are those of hesitancy and rough running under low load, neither of which have been specifically addressed by you. These are still there and once again completely unacceptable in a “quality” car, let alone a Ford Focus…

As previously reported the 320i that I had on loan from yourselves for a day did not exhibit any of the above symptoms.

Finally I would like to point out that my vehicle is pre-Efficient Dynamics………….

I am fully aware of many other 4 cylinder petrol engined E90/92/93 owners around the UK that have experienced, or are experiencing, the same issues with their cars. I have been in contact with them and I know that a number of these individuals have been successful in negotiating replacement vehicles. Perhaps I’ve been too patient or nice to receive such an offer…?

In conclusion, since you (and everyone else connected with BMW) appear to be confident that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my car, please can you confirm for the record and in writing that, in the event of there being no other option, you would be prepared to allow full value trade-in against another vehicle?

Sorry - only just noticed your question. Generally, I go to the Asda supermarket as it is near work, out of convinience more than anything, and fill-up with regular 95 octane. I haven't tried 99 in this car (used that in the Porsche) but perhaps I'll try it to see. But as I say - I seem to be in a minority of having a 320i that does not exhibit the problems that others have had.

It is a shame I agree. Still, look on the bright side. You may be able to get a favourable swap on a higher-spec model like Chris did. I was unmoved by the navigation / i-drive before in view of the price, but the new HD i-drive with the 8.8" screen looks very cool.

I pick my E93 320I up this Friday so it will be interesting to see if the car displays the same characteristics. If it does then I will throw it back at the leasing company. Would be interesting to see how much clout a large national leasing company has when it comes to this sort of issue

I lease mine through a large leasing company - My car failed when it was a week old (power steering rack) and was in the dealer for 3 weeks. After another two weeks the fuel pump failed (was in the dealer for a further five weeks). It then suffered a series of problems both serious and minor. The lease company (Leaseplan) could not care a toss. They get very good deals from a lot of these manufacturers and seem to not want to 'rock the boat' at times.

I wanted to reject the vehicle - they insisted I keep it

If it had been mine, the keys would have been handed back long ago!!

'We can definitely fix it' Excellent, going in Monday to have coils, injectors and plugs checked and a new ECU fitted along with a new program. I have said this really last chance saloon and it needs to be sorted this time.
