New addition and a new BMW

Hey chaps

As some of you may have see in rogers thread my wife and I are expecting are first child It's something that we never thought would happen and we are over the moon.

Having a TT and a 911 was never going to work and as the TT was a company car that was the one that was going to go. After 2 years of ownership I can honestly say it was one of the best cars I have had, it needed nothing in 2 years and never let us down.

So whatever was going to replace it had to be good, we decided to look at everything and with a budget it mind we ended up choosing a Mercedes C Class. I managed to get a great deal, 15% off and 2 years free servicing. However last Thursday we received a phone call to say that they could not fulfil the order to a shortage of panoramic roofs, there were no alternatives unless we compromised on spec which is something we didn't want to do so we cancelled the order.

So once again we were shopping for a car and this weekend we went to BMW with the intention of buying at a used X6. Now BMW are doing some great deals on new at the moment and after a bit of negotiation we ended up buying a new X6. I managed to get nearly 20% off list, a free car while we wait for it and a good deal on the gap insurance. We used their finance and the car is coming out nearly £200 a month cheaper than TT

Anyway here is the spec, should arrive in jan/feb

X6 3.0d
Black sapphire
Oyster leather
Bamboo wood
Dynamic pack
Media pack
Ext folding and dimming mirrors
Seat heating
Third seat
Loudspeaker system - business
Sun protection glass
20" 336 style alloys
Reversing camera pack

Will post some pics when I get it.

For anyone looking for a new car, www.drivethedeal.co.uk and www.broadspeed.com are doing some great discounts

Scott

Scott did you buy using a PCP or what type of finance. Would be interested in hearing the deposit and monthlies if you don't mind as kinda fancy a new X5 perhaps, PM if preferred.

PM sent

Thanks all, I know the X6 is one of those cars you either love or hate. My wife loves them and has done since they were released

Nice one Scott (and Mrs Scott). I really like the X6 and this one sounds like a belter. I find it ironic that you cancelled the Merc due to the lack of a sunroof yet haven't specced it on the Beemer .

Thanks roger, I know it seems strange but x6 doesn't have a pan roof option it's just a sunroof. On the merc it was a full roof that made the roof look black

Just had a quick nosey online and realised that. Once you've had a pano.roof a normal one isn't quite the same . Shame I can't get 20% off an X3 .

We liked the X3 as well but they are a lot of money, with the same sort of spec the x3 was about the same money as the X6

True, I just think the limited space in the X6 rules it out for us with 2 kids, an X5 though...

Your not the first person to say that but it surprises me as I think there is so much space especially with the third seat option. The only this that is a pain is the height if the boot but its not the end of the world..

Congratulations on the impending new arrival. Parenthood is a very rewarding roller coaster.

I'm in the "hate" camp when it comes to the X6 but who cares what my opinion is. You got what sounds like a great deal on the car you wanted and that's all that counts. Plus you have the 997 on the drive to balance out the pretty/ugly scale

With regard to big cars for families. I don't get it. We've got 2 kids and our biggest car is a Grand Vitara. My wife previously had a Seat Ibiza and even that was big enough for all of us including baby seats, ride on toys, prams, buggies etc

yep same here,

dad of four and we had a fiesta pop plus for the first two, and have not gone down the large car/people carrier route for the others - we just put them in the boot or strap them to the roof

each to their own

drive the deal have no BMWs at present, which is a shame as I'm in the market for a 135M to replace the 250 cup, they are handy to use as a negotiating tool if nothing else

I noticed that too . But, dealers are doing pretty strong deals right now, I was offered a M135i for just under £400p/m at the weekend with £5k down (or the equity in my car it happens). This was a manual car with only basic, but essential, option added - sat nav, heated seats, rear parking sensor from memory. Oh, in white too, as this cost no extra . Finance was a special deal of 3.3% flat from memory. Dealer was Williams in Stockport. Obviously to be discussed in a separate thread if required.

Drive the deal haven't had BMW on their books for many years.

Scott, I wouldnt mind an X6 and a 911 on my drive..... i have started to look at 911s again (997 Turbo Cabs ... ). I quite lilke the X6, and I know my wife would jump at the chance of one, any chance of PM ing me the figures you negotiated?

Instead I have to slum it with a 640, and V70 and a soon to be Mini Countryman.

Only update from me Pete is that I'm going to see if I can sell it privately first. Well, I say privately, I know a trader who will host the advert, deal with phone calls, sort out viewings (I'll need to make my car available obviously) all for a modest flat fee. Could make around £2k more than trading it in if not £3k - this would bring the cars I'm currently looking at, but slightly out of reach, bang on the money. I'll just need to spend a little on it first (alloy refurb & new tyres), which would just eat into the profit, and see what happens - I guess they're not flying off the shelves in this weather. I need new tyres anyway so if it doesn't sell then I've not wasted anything. Still between an E92 330d (sensible choice) or Scirocco R (mad mans choice ) but would frankly consider anything if mine sold (Golf GTI/R, 125d coupe, you name it, I've considered it). The only real pisser is that I don't think I'll be able to stretch to an M135i even with more cash in from me tantilisingly close though .

Roger, that 135i sounds great and at £400 a month there is not a lot that can touch that..

Peter, they are doing some great deals on turbos at the mo.. You could get around £30k off an Turbo S

You're right, I can think if anything I'd have over an M-lite right now, especially for the money. Unfortunately £400 p/m is still £220 p/m over what I'm paying for the Zed and not even the mighty M-lite will save me that much in fuel, tax, etc (especially given the mpg readings TMP gave me last night!!).

When's the little one due Scott?

Here what you are saying, £220 is cheap and there is not a lot you can get for that sort of money..

Little one is due in April, very excited as we never thought it would happen :-)

£220 is the balance; my Zed costs £180 . Hence my real problem swapping it .

April, good month, if it's a boy and born on the 20th, you have my permission to call him 'rogerxp' .
