If you absolutely must pay twice the price, go to a dealer. Otherwise Albert (qalbeli) is the single most reliable source that made many a forum member happy campers.

The only catch is that with Albert, you have to have a sport steering wheel already coz his wheel does not come with all the necessary hardware for installation. I forgot exactly which piece that is, but that piece is not sold seperately. For guys that want to do the non-sport to sport swap, your best bet is still an online parts department.

Just finished the install of the M3-wheel. The only hard part was getting the airbag out. The metall brackets were quite hard to find at first, took me a good 15min just for the airbag. The rest went very smooth and the whole installation took me about one hour, and I didn't rush it at all.
I torqued the 16mm hex to 65Nm and it felt pretty similar to what it was like when I took it of. I too ordered from qalbeli (although outside of eBay) and the shipping and payment procedures went very well and the wheel came with lots of protective materials around it. And the looks...wow, it's absolutely stunning! Feels great too! This has to be one of the best mods out there. The best part is I didn't have too look at any instructions since I've read this thread so many times I memorized it

In step 2 where you push a screwdriver into the sides of the wheel here is a little more info -
When you insert the screwdriver you need to line up the flat of the blade in the right direction and push in the right direction. Otherwise the blade might slip past the spring clip and not engage it and you will be fumbling around wondering WTF it's not happening. Look at Photo 10 and you can see 2 thin metal rods, 1 on each side that angle upward. These are the spring clips. You will also see that there are guides in the metal plate over them (sort of like raised tunnels) that serve to guide your screwdriver to the clip. The blade of the screwdriver must be positioned so it pushes the clip back. A wider blade helps. Then it's a piece of cake and the center piece of the wheel will pop right out. To remove the connectors from the air bag module use a small screwdriver to pry up the left and right sides of the black clamp-like piece that wraps around the connector. This will cause the top of the connector to pop up and allow the connector to disengage from the module. Step 4 - the black 2nd connector is held in by a barb on the top side of it. It releases easily if you wedge a tiny flatbladed screwdriver along the top of the connector and the female connector it is plugged into to release it from the barb. Attached are more pics - one is a closeup of one of the spring clips that holds the air bag (sorry, out of focus). You can see the tunnel for the screwdriver on the very bottom and where the screwdriver enters. The other shows how the release clips on the air bag connectors pop up. I have no clue how you guys had so much trouble with releasing the airbag...those 2 slits are literally visible if you look behind the wheel. It isnt even something you should have to feel for because you can see the perforation...It took me a Gesler about 1 minute to release the thing

Can someone tell me the parts I would need to get the M wheel? I have the non-ZSP steering wheel.
Thanks!

XS4,
Thank you, your additions to the OP were very helpful. I had no problems getting the airbag and connectors off. AND THEN I looked at my replacement wheel, and the original. No place to mount the paddle shifters. I ordered the wrong wheel. Duhhhmb. |

Your best bet is to contact Tischer. They'll get you the wheel (with all of the attachments: Connecting line and airbag braket), then you'll need the sport airbag and face plate. Real OEM.com has all the diagrams and part numbers. Sorry I can't find my list now. But I went through Tischer and everything worked out great!!
