Bang for the buck, the most cost effective way I can think of to shed weight, while maintaining a full interior, is to replace the following:

Forged Rims (~25 UNSPRUNG lbs depending on brand)
Seats (~60 lbs)
Exhaust & DP (~40 lbs)
Battery (~30 lbs)
Self Diet (~10 lbs)

I think that would get me right around 250 ish.
With today's gas prices hovering near $5 a gallon, maybe these mods would even pay itself off after a few years

Only problem... anybody know how I could install fixed position recaros into my E92?? How would people get into the backseats?!?
Just put in fixed Corbeau FX1 seats...my car is at 3300lbs...trying to get to 3100-ish...

I have been for the past year. No problems cold starting even in below 0 weather. Braille 21lbs.

Haven't been trickle charging it or anything. As a matter of fact, I left the car for 2 months, unplugged the battery, and when I started the car up after reconnecting the battery, everything started up great.

I would imagine you needed to code in the battery too? Do you know the model number or part number for the 21lb?

Edit: Nevermind, found the answer and part on EAS.

I posted this in another thread, but I was considering having a fiberglass roof made for my e90. It would be cheaper than CF or steel and would weigh in between CF and Steel. Also, I wonder if fiberglass front fenders on an e90 would be worthwhile.

Edit*

what about the mirrors?

APR universal mirrors could save weight too.

This is an extremely useful thread, as I have always been extremely weight-concious with my car. This should definitely be stickied.

I don't know how I missed this thread. I've been obsessed with trying to reduce the weight of my car and have done quite a few of the suggested mods (Turugara will attest to this). I do not have specific weight savings for most, but I do have an overall reduction.

Parts:
JIC Coil-Overs
Stoptech BBK (355/6-piston front, 345/4-piston rear) - definitely lighter than stock
Advan RS (18x8.5 fronts weigh 17.8lbs and 18x9.5 rears weigh 18.5lbs) - MAJOR difference in weight savings even with upsizing tires - approximately 10lbs per corner so 40lbs total
M3 suspension parts front and rear
UUC adjustable sways - probably not a weight savings, but HUGE difference in body role control
Sparco Milano Alcantara seats with Macht Schnell mounts - I could have saved more weight had I gone with racing shells, but I do the vast majority of my driving on the street so comfort and igress/egress was important so I "only" saved 9lbs. per seat so 18lbs. total.
Carbon 8 C/F single sided hood I saved about 20lbs. Very limited choices for the pre-LCI hood. Vorsteiner stopped making their hood for my car. I also got rid of the lift struts because I didn't want to take the chance of any stress cracks due to the strength of the struts.
Vorsteiner single sided CSL trunk I saved about 15lbs. I bought the trunk used and it's fantastic.
Braile 21lb battery - I saved 26lbs. because I didn't have the iDrive, I didn't have the largest battery BMW uses on our cars. I would NOT recommend a lighter battery for street driven cars where the temp gets pretty cold. The CCA for these batteries isn't that great so the turnover when it's cold is rough.

I did NOT remove any internal trim panels or the rear seats. Obviously if I removed those, I'd have a pretty easy time a dropping another 60-70lbs based in estimates posted earlier in the thread.

In the end, I had my car weighed at the track with 3/4 of a tank of fuel. My car weighs 3,270lbs.

I'm considering getting rid of my sunroof as well. I would not do a full CF roof. I'm not sure there is that much weight savings to be had with a CF roof vs. a non-sunroof steel roof. The cost of the roof could get REALLY expensive if you have to replace both the windshield and rear glass. If I can just get a steel panel to close up the opening in the roof (so I don't have to remove and replace the entire roof) and then wrap the roof it would be significantly less expensive and the weight penalty over the CF roof should not be that great. Just giving an option for those not wanting to spend $2000 for the CF roof, plus installation. If I do it, I'll let you know the cost and weight savings.

If I increase the weight with a full-tank of gas to 3,297lbs (based on 7lbs/gallon) and take the stock weigh of 3,425lbs I end up with a total savings of 128lbs.

Again, there is the chance to pretty easily drop another 60-70lbs without spending any more money so I could have a total savings of 188 - 198lbs. That is a significant amount of weight savings.

In my car, being a 330 and normally aspirated without the big turbo power, the weight savings of even 128lbs is definitely felt.

Hope this helps.
thus battery you have can this be used in a daily driver? I really want a lighter permanent battery.

Yes, I ran it for two years without any issues at all, other than the slow cranking in very cold weather.

Further from my last post, I installed a carbon fiber roof. I ended up dropping another 50lbs off my roof. So when all was said and done, my car with 3/4 tank weighed 3,220lbs. or a reduction of 178lbs.

I know for a fact that if you install a carbon fiber roof in a coupe it'll drop 40lbs. We installed on in the e92 race car that I drive and that was the exact weight we dropped. I'm guessing the coupe roof is a little smaller than the sedan so that's where the weight delta comes from.

Nice info here! Did a weight reduction with a CF hood, trunk and Forgestar wheels and did an M3 rep with fog delete. Looking to get the car on a scale to see how much I dropped, I believe I lost close to 70lbs.

My weight reduction.

30 mins:

Rear Seat- Back: 40 LBS
Rear Seat- Bottom: 14lbs
Battery Cover (With Tools): 3.1 lbs
Trunk Lining (both sides) plus rear plastic piece- 5.2lbs
Easily Removable Seat Belt Pieces- 6.8 lbs
Hood Cowling, Cabin Air Filter, wire holder, ECU & ABS Covers - 10 LBS
Trunk Bottom- 9.6lbs
Trunk Insert- 1.5lbs

Results:

Noticeable difference? Yes.
Easier on the rear suspension.
Slightly less traction for RWD.
More in-cabin noise (probably a good thing at the track)

Yes, B3121C is the same as above, but carbon.
Charging system works fine. You just need to tell the computer that you installed a new battery so it doesn't overcharge it. I don't do coding, my shop did the install.

Ott of all the new batteries I have gotten I have never registered it. Can my coder do this for me?

I'm not sure.
From what I've read on here, the electronics will have the alternator charge an older battery more often than a new battery. There's been cases where batteries have blown up, but I'm not sure it was a case of computer overcharging or some other influence.
TBH: I know there are plenty of people on here that have not registered their battery and it's been fine. It's up to you.
